Jesus was a interesting man of his time. But lets face it people, believing Jesus was the son of god is the equivalent to believing a crazy man on the NYC streets is God's cousin.

After watching the republican debate, it becomes obvious to the viewer that Christianity plays a big part in most Republicans lives. Most Republicans also believe that the Global Warming happening in the world today isn't caused by humans, even when hundreds of professionally respected scientists are saying that it is.

So why are Republicans so quick to believe in Jesus, but not Global Warming?

First off, thank you all for your responses.
If many of you havn't figured it out, I meant "most" republicans and "most" Christians.
Secondly, I think the fact that hundreds of respected scientists are telling the world that humans are directly taking part in Global Warming is nothing to dismiss as a "myth". Is it possible that many scientists out there who are telling us Global Warming is caused only by natural causes are being paid by the oil companies to do so? Its possible.
Would it shock you if we really were the main culprit of Global Warming? Or would you still not believe it with the facts right in front of your face?
I don't know about you, But i'm more likely to believe the majority of scientists saying that humans are contributing to Global Warming, than to believe Jesus is the son of god....
Last note, I got a kick from the fellow who said that i can be "saved" by accepting Jesus. Sorry dude, I'll put my life in the scientists hands to save us from Global warming....

Also, is it possible that many of you will not believe a scientist who isn't of the christian faith?

It is far easier to jump on the mythology bus and praise an imaginary being than it is to stand up against big oil, gas and coal.

They would risk tremendous amounts of campaign contributions. and votes. It is also because a huge number of religious right churches are preaching against global warming as well. They need that 26% base - so they will ignore facts and science to maintain money and power for their own personal benefit while putting the lives of billions at risk.

Global Warming, while not a myth, is NOT the big major superhyped end of the world as we know it (thank you, Mr. Stipe). I do, however, notice that you say that Republicans don't believe it's caused by humans. You DON'T say that Republicans don't believe it's true, until the end, when you basically undo what you said about Republicans previously.. Way to cover your 6 there.

Rich, I am both a Republican & a practicing Christian. I don't suppose you consider me a real person?

In addition, even IF global warming were to cause all the weirdness that the left would have us believe, do you think that the human race, Christian or not, Republican or Democrat, is too overall stupid to find a way to adapt?

The quick answer from me is the distrust of Al gore and the liberal politics he represents. Save the planet, make him rich as the spokesman, and overstate the situation. Global warming is still in debate therefore there are hundreds of scientists who dispute the human cause of global warming theory.

I usually vote Republican and I am a Christain. I am concerned for the environment and believe that human caused global warming is a possibility but it should not be championed by one party or another which causes partisonship of the issue. Leave it to science to sort this out.

I'm pretty sure that there are Christian democrats who believe in Jesus and global warming. Don't be a fool and believe everything you hear. Stereotypes can be an easy answer... but probably not the right one.

Just reading your edits... Did your brain fall out of your pants with the rest of that crap?

I think it's funny how people preach their opinion thinking they have such a superior intellect. For every scientist that believes in global warming there is another who doesn't. It is all THEORIES. People once thought the earth was flat too. I'm sure if democrats were preaching that right now you'd be right there with them on the bandwagon.

Get a clue because when it comes right down to it you don't know jack.

People are so quick to polarize. It's enough to make a person sick.

When you're facing the decision between two extreemes you'll likely find your answer somewhere in the middle.

The full documents and results dont prove that We are responsible for it. We certinly arnt helping, they do prove that.

However there are reasonable theories that point to other possibillities besides global warming.

One is natural cycle. It essentially says that the earth dosent hold the same track in space, and it kind of has its own cycle around the sun.

Other theories are "we only have 200 years of data.... on a planet thats been around since 4 billion years ago...." It could be mostly a normal weather cycle.

There is another scientist who has a theory about the sun.He isnt an enviornmental scientist hes a solar scientist.... I think he had something to say about the sun acctually getting hotter and colder. Like how a fire flares up and dies down a bit but on a longer scale.

I have a lot of support for the movement towards non polluting fuels and things. If thats your angle i know where you are coming from.

Unfortunatelly all those scientists saying "O its DEFEINETELLY us" arnt offering up alternatives that are possible . Also science is not deffinent, its "this is our best explanation."

Being informed is very important.

Becuse the conservative party has been hijacked by the religious right. and the right dosent care about this world becuse "Jesus could come back tommorow" I generally refer to them as revelations christians.

peace, hope i helped.

Actually the crazy man on the NYC streets is God's son too.

But to answer your question, I think global warming is happening, and I'm a Christian.

I'm not a Republican, however.

Firstly the fundimental christians give lots of money and votes to the republicans for election campaigns.

Secondly those fundies who are republican are under the false illusion that so long as they believe in Jesus, they will be forgiven for greed and glutany. Therefore they think what will it matter if I buy a big 6 L SUV, Jesus died on the cross for me... I'll be fine....

Republicans who aren't Christians and who are pro-global warming are only interested in profits and increasing economic development (thus profits). They get the support of fundies, many of which don't live in big cities where all the smog is. If you live in the worlderness with buildings miles apart, you don't experience the practical aspects of global warming until an obvious change in climate takes place. They don't want to believe global warming happens, because it doesn't have effects in their back yard.

In short: They believe in Jesus because they think Jesus died so their sins would be forgiven so long as they believe in him. They don't believe in Global warming because then there would be a consequence for their sins which they might have to pay for.

Why are you so quick to believe one over the other and to believe in stereotypes, rather than check things out? You have determined Jesus didn't exist and that all Republicans disbelieve in Global warming. Can you give any facts to back any of this up?

Because global warming is a natural fact of the earths cycle. Remember the ice age they taught you about in school. How did it melt?

I think the answer to that question is that Republicans are very careful to review the facts in everything they consider and are not willing to conclude that the global warming that seems to be taking place right now is due to activities that mankind has been doing. The warming may be due to completely natural causes. Whereas they believe in Jesus because they have faith in God and God has called them to the truth and they have responded positively to his call. Pretty straight forward answer, I think.
