The Germans & Irish they there were immigrates & came to Mexico for a new start life. In Mexican-American War, the Mexican Military made the Irish & Germans have there own Battalion. I think they called them (Saint Patrick's Battalion?) Just like the African-Americans have there own Battalion during the Civil War.

Back to the Mexican-American War, Is it because Catholicism?

Thanks you guys & ladies!

To Conranger 1,
The Mexican-American War it start in the mid 1800s. The Spanish-American it started in "LATE" in the 1800s! How can a bloody a Irish Spanish-American veteran has fought the American in the Mexican-American War? It is like saying a Desert Storm Veteran he fought against the Germans in WW2? You do the math & read history book before you reply!!!

PS Army Rangers sucks & It is all about British SAS!!!!

Yes, largely.

The Saint Patrick's Battalion (San Patricios) was a group of several hundred immigrant soldiers, the majority Irish, who deserted the U.S. Army because of ill-treatment or sympathetic leanings to fellow Mexican Catholics. They joined the Mexican army. Most were killed in the Battle of Churubusco; about 100 were captured by the U.S. and roughly half were hanged as deserters.

You were supplied the answer to a question with regards the Irish & Mexicans. You appear to have taken that information completely out of context.

The Irish who joined the Mexicans were deserters from the US Army in the Spanish-American War.

The country of Ireland was British owned at the time, so was part of the United Kingdom. The Irish Republic not being formed until 1922.

The Irishmen in the military in Mexico were NOT forced to fight for Mexico or forced to be in an Irish Battalion it was just convienient that a large group of men from the same country speaking the same language and having some military traineing were kept together, but under Mexican Officers.

Where did you get a German connection to the Mexican Saint Patrick Battalion??

Finaly it is ignorant to use German swear words against people, if you think their reply is incorrect you can report them.

Act like an adult and not a child!!

It might interest some posters here that Southern Germany, Bavaria in particular has always been staunchly Catholic, as it is today!!

Sorry, I don't believe that rubbish. My grandfather came here from Germany in 1862 and in 1863 he joined the Union Army. they didn't have time to join up with any Mexicans because they were too busy fighting the confederate army in the East.

Without a link proving your post, it's just going to be blown off as BS.

No it was because Mexico under Emperor Maximillion was a part of the Hapsburg empire. Maximillion made a lot of promises to the German and Irish immigrants that he could not keep. After America defeated Mexico. Mexico went into a sectarian (Catholic vs Protestant) civil war. Maximillion was forced into exhile when his forces where defeated.

don't think so as Germany was not Catholic! the Irish after the famine went everywhere. some went to the US some to Mexico and some were in the Confederate army and had made a little idea. to return the northern states. the Union states to Britain in return for Britain leaving Ireland. Was not sure of that myself until i saw the documents relating to that little plan some years ago.
