this is v a normal problem with chihuahuas and unfortunately a lot of vets don't know the specific breed.
get Karo syrup and put a teaspoon in a pint of water and use this as her drinking water ( helps to keep the sugar up)
If you can't get Karo syrup then honey is ok but Karo is the best.
Also get Nutrical and give it to her about every 3 hours about an inch this is a very high caloric vitamin and appetite stimulant.
When you have a chi with this problem it's important to feed hr small meals about every 3 hours as you know know the sugar drops quickly.
Most chihuahuas are not this bad and if you got her from a breeder you should notify the breeder and see if they would be willing to help with vet bills.
If you have anymore questions you can email me at kathy_decaprio@yahoo.com
I will be going out tonight and will check my emails at about 9 pm

If a vet is having trouble diagnosing, you have NO HOPE of getting anything useful from people on here - there are no vets on here, and you have only described a very generalised symptom. The low blood glucose could be secondary to many sorts of problems. People will probably come on here and say 'oh my dog had that and it was....' etc etc. Doesn't really help you know what's going on with YOUR dog.

Please continue working with vets to get this problem sorted out. Hope all goes well.

Hypoglycemia is a condition in which the chihuahua's blood sugar level drops to an extremely low level, causing "sugar shock." When levels of glucose in the blood drop rapidly, the dog's body and brain are deprived of essential nutrients. The results of hypoglycemia can be weakness, seizures, coma, and in severe cases, death.

Because chihuahuas are so small, they can be prone to hypoglycemia, especially when they are very young. Hypoglycemia is usually caused by stress, illness, lack of food, or by using up stored energy without it being replenished.

It is important to make sure that young puppies and very tiny chihuahuas eat regularly throughout the day. Another preventative for hypoglycemia is regular feeding of a high-calorie supplement called Nutrical, available from your veterinarian or your local pet store.

If you suspect that your chihuahua is hypoglycemic, call your vet AT ONCE as this condition can be quickly fatal.

I'm not a vet, but my glucose drops in the middle of the day everyday and I am encouraged to eat sugar. May that will work? Ask your vet about sugary foods you can fee her.

You got 2 very good answers to your question. All I'd add is that if I were you I'd shop around for a vet that is more familiar with your breed. GL

You just have to feed her more regularly. If she won't eat regularly then drip syrup or nutrical in her mouth at regular intervals. You just have to make sure her blood sugar stays regulated.

oh no! Take her back and demand they find out....although...keep in mind that tests cost too....also you may want to take her to another Vet.

make sure she isnt getting into something she isnt supposed to...do you have children? is there any possibility someone is giving her food that isnt good for her?

start calling vets, going online..research..and quickly!!!
