You should see distances slightly longer than your 3 Iron.

The correct answer is that you should be hitting it the same distance each time with a normal swing (what some people would call a "full swing") - in other words, it doesn't matter how far you hit it, it matters that you hit it approximately the same distance each time AND that it travels a different distance than another club in your bag. Here's an example from my life: I used to have a 3w (it was made by Langert - anyone remember that company?) that I loved - hit it far, could work it both ways, equally from the tee or the fairway. It felt like I couldn't do anything wrong with it - well, I started to get better, even qualified for the US Amateur one year, and I had to get rid of my favorite club - it was going the same distance as my driver, so it really didn't give me any other options except it was really fun to hit. I had to find a complimentary 3w to my set - I had a huge gap in distance between my 2 iron (around 235) and my driver/3w (around 285). For the record, the replacement was a Callaway Steelhead 4+ (ProLite 35 X tipped one inch - in this case, I had to find both a higher lofted club AND a slightly stiffer shaft) that you'll have to pry out of my cold, dead hands. now I have a club I hit smack dab in the middle of my "distance gap" and I can take a little off with a cut or add a little roll with a draw, and I have more options - good golfers will recognize that this means I am much better prepared to make the 3s and 4s you need on par 5s to score well.

Instead of figuring out what club you need, figure out what distance you need (where's the hole in your "stock" distances?) and find a club to fit that - you'll find that you'll hit different 21 degree hybrids different distances, so be sure you are buying something you've been able to compare to your already established set. If you're just trying to replace your 3 iron because a hybrid is easier to hit and gives you more short game options, figure out how far you hit that 3 iron, and find a club that goes that distance.

But while you're doing that, make sure you've got good, consistent distance gaps with all of your clubs - I know one guy that had to have the lofts of almost all his irons tweaked because he was only hitting them about 5 yards apart (6 iron only going about 5 yards further than his 7, for example), and in his case it meant he had to decide to hit every iron a little bit shorter - his pw is now 55 degrees (almost a "normal" sand wedge loft).

To sum up, it doesn't matter how far you hit each club, what matters is that you know how far you hit each one, and that they each go a practically distinguishable distance from one another. You only get 13 of them (plus a putter), so use them wisely.

Generally speaking a hybrid will increase your distance about one club over an iron of the same loft.

21 degrees is about a 3 iron loft, so expect to get about 10-15 yards more than your current 3 iron distance.

If you want to get the same distance as your 3 iron, you would probably want a hybrid around 24 degrees which is a standard 4 iron loft.

Yes it is replacing your 3 iron.
3 iron= 21-22°
4 iron= 23-24°
5 iron=25-26°
You should probably be hitting it about 230. Right around there

Ideally you want to hit it as far as you would hit a 3 iron. That may not help so try this. I'd say about 10-15 yards farther than you hit your 4 iron.

well your hybrid won't drive like your Driver.
But the hybrid should go at least 200-220 depending on you and the club
They will swing different than your irons, the head will feel heavier and your swing will feel more fluid.

Given those numbers, I would guess the hybrid should carry about 200 - 210. (Hit 'em straight.)

It doesn't matter how far you "should" hit it. It matters how far you DO hit it. Go to a range. Hit enough shots that you know how far you hit it. Then use it appropriately. You should find that you can hit it better than a 3 iron.
