Because they are older and there immune systems are generally not as healty as a younger persons

An 80 year old woman has a weaker immune system than a 30 year old. therefore it takes longer to get over the flu.

The body's metabolism slows down as we grow older.toxins accumulate in the body.much more when he get older. the body cant eliminate toxins as it could when young..effecting the immune response.
the body's organs are wearing out with use. and don't react like they used to.many things happen to the body as we grow older.i don't really know exactly why.everyone is different.
my grandparents lived into there late ninety's and were never sick,till they got so old .then one got cancer the other a lung infection. and died..what you eat matters greatly.eating no white flour or sweets or a lot of red meat i think made them live long healthy life's.I wish you well.

just like reaction time and movement your immune system slows down as well and gets weaker with age. therefor it can take an 80 yr old longer time to get over it.
