How about cutting of foreskins?
How about raping virgins?
How about killing babies?
How about stoning your neighbor for taking out the trash on Sunday?

Or do these seem, I don't know, a bit strange.

No I would never want any idiotic dogma, hate, or murder to be carried out in my name.

You have my main account blocked. Did I do something to piss you off?

Some of the things you've mentioned seem a little strange... taking out the trash on whatever day is most odd... but goat whacking isn't strange at all. It's entirely natural for all grown men to be overcome with the urge to whack a goat from time to time... You know you've always wanted to be just like your great, great ancestors.

If you misconstrue and not understand, it is because someone did not educate you about the real meanings of some of these things.

Foreskin collects smegma and potential diseases. Cutting it off is more hygienic, plus you have a sign of monotheism in the tool that is the foundation of your generations. One part of circumcision is practical, the other is symbolic.

In the old days wealth was counted by how many goats you had. A male goat was more valued, as one male can give many offsprings, whereas a female goat could give only one or two kids. When you kill the male goat as a sacrifice, you are really showing to yourself that you trust the Lord Almighty for your provisions, and not depend on the goat itself. The sacrifices if you notice are always of food, on which your sustenance depends. The Almighty never asked them to burn some bolts of fabric. The Israelites were asked to sacrifice their livelihood, to slowly build trust in the Almighty rather than material thing. Once you understand that, you will see the purpose of sacrifice. Plus, it makes you able to give your own life for the Almighty and to defend the faith. It allows you to interact with death at close quarters, so you lose all fear of death and dying and are willing to risk your life for the Almighty.

The Laws of Moses were meant to bring about justice. People used to make servants and animals work round the clock. By requiring a day off, the mercy laws began to kick in. When a part of your field left for the poor to pick, again it was to spread the blessings and mercy to the weak, without humiliating them. After all each one of us, rich or poor, powerful or weak was born naked and hungry.... and we all leave this World without anything. We are renters on the Earth whose Owner is only the Almighty. All the rest of us are renters or leasers for a short while, even if you are Bill Gates.

Once you understand this basic truth, it solves so many problems. Killing babies or raping virgins is not the way of the Almighty at all. I am not sure what you are refering to.

In my understanding all humans and animals are property of the Almighty. If anyone abuses his position beyond what is allowed according to the laws of Justice, then such a person will have to pay up in due time for his wrong doings.

I hope some of this makes sense to you.

If I were 'god' I'd just want everyone to be nice to everyone and not hurt anyone.
If they couldn't do that they can go outside into the cold till they could promise they could behave but each time they misbehaved they could stay outside longer.

That's just getting way too convoluted; the whole concept of a 'god and his house' is just far too silly to be taken seriously.

Definitely strange. If I were a God, I would want peace and love to prevail. Honor all living things by letting them live and being kind to them.

Are we talking the cute little pygmy goats, or the big ugly ones, cuz that might change my answer....

Just kiddin' -- yes, very strange how people can just accept this line of thought.

I won't sit around and hypothesize about being God...

But as a human, I find those things to be abhorrent and cruel.

I'm not too fond of holy wars, homophobia, racism, environmental destruction and poverty either... but they exist and I can only keep my side of the street clean.

Why do you insist on believing these things are God's expressions? Ancient people believed and practiced these things, believing they were pleasing to God. Does it make sense now? no, but it probably made just as much sense as embalming a cat or mummifying oneself at death. ANCIENT worldview. The Bible is a human account and history of a people's experience. THEY believed these things were God ordained. Were they right? sometimes, were they wrong, sometimes. They were HUMAN, making sense and meaning of life, just as we do.
