I have a T.V. that will not power on & no one seems to know what is wrong with it. When you hit the power button it will try to turn on but then powers it self right back off & will repeat it self 3 times & then you can not attempt to turn it on for another 5 minutes or so. The TV is not that old but it is not under warrenty & the place we got it from closed down. RCA is absolutuly no help at all & the TV repair man charged me $69.00 to come out & tell me that there is something wrong that it will not turn on (I knew that b./c that is the reason that I called them out there). If any one has any soultions please help me. We are getting new cable hooked up in 2 days & i do not have a tv in the living room to watch it on. Thanks!!

Your power supply is overheating and shutting itself off or there is a short in the processor because of the heat. RCA isn't the only one with this problem.

C'mon Fecomosis.....It's SONY and MITSUBISHI !! Those two manufacturers have been duking it out for 20 years since Sony caught up with them..... Now your RCA is shutting down 2 or 3 times because the POWER SUPPLY is sensing too much current draw, and it's protecting the power supply from shorting out....... And there are several things that can draw too much current.... The Hi Voltage section, the Horizontal Sweep section or the CRT /HV splitter section........Even the power supply's rectifiers can cause this...... SINCE they are ALL on one BOARD.....it's more cost effective to replace the Power/Deflection board. But sometimes you get lucky and the FAILURE is easily troubleshot, and then parts are replaced. It's when the problem behaves intermittantly like yours does, that board replacement will fix it faster and better......
