If I buy a DVI to HDMI converter, will I still need to run audio cables from my cable box to the TV, or does the converter take care of the audio as well?

Unfortunately TVs with the HDMI inputs don't have a backup set of audio inputs to be used when the source box is a DVI output.....

That means you will have to take the audio outputs on your cable box and connect them to an audio amplifier to get sound...

You may want to RECONSIDER using the Cable box's Component Video/Audio connections....they are HD also.....

Yes you will have to run audio cables. HDMI carries audio but DVI does not. Since your cable box is DVI out, that means only video. The audio portion has to be connected from you cable box to the TV or to your surround sound system.

It's possible to transfer the audio signal as the visual signal through the converter. Here is one example:

u need a dvi output source to enjoy ur cable.other than that ur cable isn't useful until u hav a dvi output source.
