Cats are great. They are easy to take care of. They need food, water, and a litter box. They do like toys too. They like being around people but they do not require constant attention. You can leave them for a couple of days as long as you leave them plenty of food and water and a clean litter box. They are entertaining and sweet. I have 2 cats and I can't imagine life without them. Can you bring him to a shelter where he can maybe interact with some cats?

There are a number of reasons people don't like cats:

1) They smell. Your answer to this is that they do NOT smell if you use good litter and good litter maintenance - you need to scoop the litter DAILY and replace it completely at least (depending on how much litter you put out to begin with) once or twice a month. Diet can make a diff also.

2) They're standoffish. Your answer here is that they can be. But they can also be very affectionate, depending on their particular personality and how they are handled when young. Love them but don't smother them, answer when they call, and they will be very sweet.

3) Guys, particularly, seem to think it's a threat to their testosterone level if they like cats, so very few men will admit to liking them. You can't do much about that except plead for them to make a concession for the ladies in the house.

Good luck!

Try talking to your dad...let him know how responsible you are, and that would really like your own pet....point out that cats are very easy to take care of...offer to work around the house or something for your dad in an effort to help "pay" for the cat food and other expenses.....tell him you'll make sure the litter box is scooped out every single day.....and don't get discouraged if he says no. Try again later, but don't make a pest of yourself. Just show him how much a cat means to you.

Some people hate cats, and convincing a cat hater to "put up" with one creates a situation where possible abuses could occur (no offense to you dad).

Take your friend's cat over to your house and see how your dad reacts, that way you won't invest in a pet for yourself that your dad may not become accustomed to thence having to give the cat away, which would suck bigtime.

Maybe you could ask if, for a trial run of sorts, you may "cat sit" for a friend. Then he would see you you do in caring for one as well as how he reacts to one.

you should foster a cat for a while....see how it is.....try not to get attached. if all goes well your dad might changed his mind
