I yell cause I am extremly agitated. I am just trying to understand why the make and model of a car makes a difference in racing. To me, it comes down to the drivers and the teams. If you dont have a good driver or a good crew cheif to make the car good, then you have nothing. What makes tony so good besides his talent, is his team. They work on the cars and engines to make them good. So with a good solid team, I just do get what manufacturers have to do with anything. I am just trying to get someone to give me a good reason. Not that its un american, cause thats just stupid.

These are the same people that have cut Tony(and Denny) all year.Now Toyota will have a legit chance of winning and the "bowtie" boys know it and they don't like it.

Okay, To some, the car matters as much as the driver. Some people don't care who the driver is that wins as long as it's out of this garage and powered by this engine (let's say Chevy for arguments sake). But here is the reality... I have bought a lot of vehicles in my day and I have yet to buy any of them that have the same package as any of the cars on the NASCAR circuit. Period. The cars that are driven on the circuit are no more Chevys, Fords, Dodges, or Toyotats than the professsional dragster that John Force drives is. The emblem on the front of the vehicle merely identifies one of the primary sponsors associated with the team.
I will say however, that the Toyotas will have a couple of hard years ahead of them simply because the American automakers have been backing the sport for a long time and Toyota is going to have to play catch up - just like they did in the Craftsman truck series.
I fully agree with the COT (car of tomorrow) concept since it is going to level the playing field and make the driver's abilities, along with his pit crew, win the race instead of minor deviations that have been overlooked for so long that has allowed a few racing monopolies to hoard all the glory.
I agree it should be about the driver, not what "make" of car he is driving or what team he is driving for.

Okay you are a Tony Stewart fan. Same as if Jimmie Johnson started driving a Toyota I would still be a fan. That is driver loyalty and I understand that. As long as Nascar has been around you have had the loyal Chevy guys, the loyal Ford guys etc. when you get a new car in the mix it takes awhile for people to adjust. In a few years you will have the loyal Toyota guys. Nothing to get upset about.

I agree with you to a point.
I'm not a hugely loyal fan to NASCAR but I understand the attachments to the makes of models of cars. ALTHOUGH I don't understand NASCAR thinking behind it in present day.
Stock car racing going way back wasn't controlled nearly as much as it is today. Stock cars used to be just that STOCK (With Mods), and automakers used that to market there vehicles. Who's better, who's faster, more reliable.
Now you can't tell the difference between the cars (Exactly the same) and if one car is slightly off standards for the race it is disqualified. So I understand where the type of car used to matter, but it shouldn't matter that much anymore. The driver is what should matter the most in present day racing.
BTW - Ignore some peoples answer. You asked what could be a sensitive question (ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS) so what. Maybe some other people will leave good answers
As long as Jeff Gordon wins that's all that matters :-D

I agree! It's just weird when they jump ship and go to someone else.
For how many years, JGR and Stewart have been telling us to buy Chevy's and Chevy is the best.....Chevy has the most wins......We have a great relationship with GM......They have always been there for us.......They made us who we are!
Then what? They pull up their roots and plant them in a Japanese company. Sure people are going to be mad, and they have every right to be pissed.
It's no different then when Michael Jordan went and played for the Wizards. Did that move make him any less Michael. No, of course not! Were people pissed? You bet! But once the season started and he was there playing, people got over it and started buying tickets! It's no different!
It's just hard when for so many years it has been a certain way and then all of a sudden when everything is going well it changes.
No one would be upset if they switched to Toyota because Chevy couldn't compete. But that's not the case. Chevy has dominated Cup this year and will next year as well. The change just doesn't seem warranted.
That's why people are pissed!

If you want to know the true reason for this it is Auto Manufacturer Loyalty. This started in the late 40s and early 50s. The sales pitch was IF IT WINS ON SUNDAYS IT WILL SELL ON MONDAYS!!!!!. Fans bought Fords or Chevys etc. because their favorite driver raced a Ford or a Chevy etc. Fans backed their drivers and Maker of the car that the racer and Mr Public drove Themselves. Auto dealership salesmen used this as a selling Tactic and it has stuck and grew from way back then. REMEMBER THIS OLD SLOGAN F.O.R.D. FIRST ON RACE DAY!!!!!

I guess I am wasting my time because your way is the only way in your small world that is.
I have drivers that I want to win. They are most likely CHEVY drivers. I really never root for a ford driver from the start of a race. I have a favorite or two but they are Chevy drivers not ford or Toyota. Always have rooted for Chevy I buy Chevy's not fords to drive.
If it gets down to a couple ford drivers and no Chevy on the track then I really don't care who wins.
Has any driver that I liked changed to a ford or Toyota not yet so I guess maybe when that happens I will root for him but if he has to get beat I hope a Chevy driver is the one to do it.
You don't love racing you love Tony Stewart and what ever he drives. I love racing and root for a bunch of drivers not just hung up on one person like you are.
To say you or I or the Jolly Green Giant is a better race fan than the other because of what floats there personal boat is asinine. I love racing from the salt flats to track and field. Always have always will and to say your better than me because I like Chevy's well I guess your the stupid one.

To some people make and model of car is just as important as the driver. American is the way this race was set up and some are resistant to change. Everyone is entitled to feel how they want whether everyone agrees or not they have a right to their own opinion. If you have ever been to a truck/car event it is more than clear that make of the vehicle is just as important to some as the person inside.

I was already a big motorhead before I became a nascar fan in the early 90's. I already favored GM products, Pontiac and Chevrolet specifically, and disliked Ford. This is before I picked a driver. So I had my prejudices about auto manufacturers before I became a race fan. So, why should I just drop my auto manufacturer preferences just because a driver decides to switch. (My favorite driver has switched to Dodge, but I can deal with it....at least it isn't Ford or Toyota.)

OMG!!! Thank You! I absolutely agree!!!!! I think the same way although I want Jeff Burton to win! I don't care about what kind of car he drives, what it looks like, who the sponsor is or isn't, I watch the race to see JEFF BURTON not his car!
Anyways Tony Stewart and the rest of JGR should not have a problem switching to Toyota, Tony is a great driver! Its not gonna matter what make a car he drives, he's a WINNER no matter what!
