HI,
I have a German Shepherd that likes to spend his time on the roof of the house, is there a law that prohibits me from letting my dog on the roof. I got a citation from animal shelter since some lady complaint about him being on the roof.
Thanks

well its probably not very safe... but i dont think they would specifiy a law against dogs on a roof since it doesnt happen often. but they could get you for an off-leash law possibly, since the dog is not fenced it or anything. Our off-leash law is a fine of $1550!

Crazy lady! She probably thought the dog was going to jump her. I never heard of a law against a dog being on a roof. Unless there is a leash law in your town, i don't understand the citation. Maybe you should keep him on a very long leash.

It's not the safest place for your dog to be because he could fall and injure himself. The best thing would be to confine the dog so that he doesn't have access to your roof.
If you're working on the roof or something you could allow the dog to come up with you on leash so that you could keep him with you and safe from falling. The Springer we had when I was a child used to go up on the roof with my Dad sometimes but never by herself.

i have never heard of a law like that. i know cats get on the roof all the time & even though they are more agile than dogs, if a cat can legally do it i don't see why a dog can't. i would just make sure you watch him, or at least have a place he can safely come down without having to jump off.

tell neighbor lady to mind her own business, and the animal shelter isnt authorized in most places to write tickets and give citations or impose fines they have to have the sheriffs dept to do that,,as far as being offleash..hes on the roof...hes not leaving the area of the house...dogs are pretty sure footed they know where they can do and where they cant. and sheppherds are very agile.

a citation? I would fight that. Seems stupid that they are such busy bodies that you can't let your dog where you want, on your OWN property. Obviously, you dog is not falling off it or endangered. What a twit to have as a neighbor, much less another dimwit giving citations, she needs to investigate REAL animal cruelty cases, not harass you.
maybe if you went up there in a G string to sunbathe you'd really get her goat! it's not illegal, you would have clothes on!

She is, as you assert, way too youthful to be aggressive adequate to attack. As an person & she assaults you're nevertheless to blame for a canines chew. in case you get her knowledgeable as a private risk-free practices canines you have much greater legal duty. in case you have been to be attacked by a set of persons the canines will greater suitable than possibly get spooked & no longer understand what to do. until she has been knowledgeable to take care of against diverse human beings she would have the capacity to no longer artwork for you. An untrained canines will spook, a knowledgeable canines for this specific form of attack she could artwork for you. yet to very own a knowledgeable risk-free practices canines is like donning a gun. She could be a deadly weapon. & if she bit somebody you may face an quite comparable expenses as though she have been a gun. an quite risky problem to be in. there's a great distinction between the way a no longer knowledgeable canines vs a knowledgeable canines will respond to a difficulty. The untrained canines is amazingly very very undependable & you won't be able to are awaiting what it may do. the place a knowledgeable canines would be reliable & respond the way it replaced into knowledgeable.

Is it a tin roof? <--- just kidding
Can you fence him in on the roof somehow? What did the citation say it was for? "Dog on roof" or something else?

That might depend, on whether you rent or own.
Was the woman complaining, or was she a concerned animal lover? If it was just a complaint, then you'll win as long as you follow through with a fight.
