Have anyone been on the Norwegian Star cruise ship heading for the Mexican Riviera? I’m interested in going mid October, but not sure if it a good time and place to go?

WE did the Mexico cruise on the star in 2004. It was a nice cruise, except that a hurricane came across Mexico and we had a to change the port stop order and thus missed stopping at one planned cities. The cruise was otherwise great. Even though the weather was bad at that port, by the time we got there it was sunny and clear.

The food was good and so was the staff, although I do not care that much for the NCL "freestyle" dinner thing. But we knew about that before we booked.

I liked the stop in Cabo St Lucas best of the three stops we made. Puerto Vallarta was just OK to me, I think it is overrated based on celebrities going there. Acapulco was also OK. We took a tour there also and saw the cliff divers and the city. Its nice but if I wanted to do a beach I would not go that far for one. My overall impression is that Cabo is the best place of the stops and the Caribbean side of Mexico, i.e., Cancun and Cozumel, has the prettiest beaches.

October should be a good time as its the very tail end of the Caribbean hurricane season and you are not likely to get one come across land. The later in October the better.

I was on the Norwegian Star in mid October 2005. I wrote a review (which I link to below). The review is long, about 19 type written pages.

I was lucky. While I had good weather, the cruise before mine lost some port time because the ship had to spend extra time at sea going around a hurricane.

I have been on the NCL Star - and did not like NCL at all.
We sailed to Alaska in May. We didn't like the "free style" dining, and the food was simply horrible on the ship. We would not even eat at the buffet it was so bad.
We did sail Princess STAR to the Mexican Riviera and it was wonderful. There is alot of fun things to do at every stop. It is a fun cruise - but I would re-think NCL.

Usually a couple of days before the port they have port talks and will give information like this. As to booking with the cruise line for excursions bear in mind that your ship will not wait for you if you are late back (taxi broke down etc.) but if you are on one of their excursions they will wait.
