What is the need for prayer when god is supposed to know everything. Wouldnt your prayer to a all knowing god be a huge waste of time and energy. Just a thought that came to my mind from a yahoo question. Thx to all that answer.

You'll get the same response if you pray to a block of cheese. But at least you can eat the cheese!

Of course God knows. The purpose of prayer is to develop the relationship between God and the individual. The relationship is greatly affected by this conversation, just as the parent-child relationship develops largely through the child's efforts to communicate.

I was once told by a relative that they would pray for me. I asked them if they believed in a big, powerful god, that knows yesterday, today and tomorrow. They said, yes (of course). I then asked if this big powerful god knew what my outcome would be. They said yes. I then asked them how they thought they could influence with prayer this evening what god already knows will happen now. They had no answer.

Prayer is not so much a technique as a relationship. Prayer is a ‘transforming friendship’ that provides something more than getting answers. This ‘transforming friendship’ is the setting in which we develop our confidence in God’s care. Here we prove that he is looking out for us. By prayer we do not merely get the gifts; we also get to know the giver. In prayer we hear his heartbeat, grasp his agenda and begin to identify with his plans for us and our world.

I believe that God must be tuned in manually...

God is not just some auto-pilot control... Cruising through life is not very spiritual. It's when you stop and ask for directions that you have purpose in mind.

And just so you know... I have no interest in converting you to any specific belief... I just know what has helped me in life... and it wasn't feeling "all powerful".

Many atheists and agnostics can forget about the helpful role that humility can play because they want to stay strong and not fall prey to nonsense. This has nothing to do with whether or not a person has a religion - only whether they know how to behave in a way that is spiritually positive.

there's a necessary clarification for praying: to get to renowned Jesus and characteristic fellowship with him. After that to desire as a skill of non secular conflict so as to get God's will carried out in the international. this is amazingly hectic to ungodly souls who want what the devil needs. a minimum of they have been deceived into this want yet while it is merely too previous due they gained't want what he needs to any extent further. the want of the devil is a demise seize. we want God's will. So once you do each thing egocentric you provide in to the devil. The Bible says, do no longer provide place to the devil. yet non-Christians try this all of the time without determining it and set up a greater seize for themselves constantly.

Because that way we are submitting to Him, learning to rely on HIm and realize that HIs will is best, and that He is the provider of all things that are good. We praise Him, thank Him and ask Him for things because He wants us to. I pray because it gives me peace, and I love Him. and as for your second question " what's the point of having a relationship with something that does not exist". I admit, that would be dumb. But God is real. and living, and Holy and He is worth getting to know.

I believe it would be a huge waste of time if God was all knowing. But what good would the churches be if you told people they didn't need to pray because God already knows? It is the reason all religions are really just mind control. They tell you that you have to pray to God and worship God but then turn around and say that God is all-knowing and blah blah blah. They use scare tactics, such as telling people they will go to Hell if they don't do what the church says.

God wants to have a relationship with all that are called to be children of God. When you pray, you talk to God, when you read the Bible, this is one way God talks to you. There are other ways He talks to you, through your conscience, sometime it is a drive to go in a certain direction.

God is our Father in heaven. Having a personal relationship with our Father is through prayer........This is an awesome God, with limitless power and glory! When we get down on both knees and lift up our hands in prayer to the great CREATOR of the universe, we think of to whom we are praying, and "hallow" or praise His name, as Jesus instructed. Remember that He is not only the Creator, but the active GOVERNOR of the entire universe—guiding the rise and fall of nations according to His will. He is the One in charge of the weather—sending "rain in due season" (cf. Deuteronomy 28:12)—or at times drought and destruction upon those nations that must be punished (vv. 24-25).
Yet, if you surrender to Him, obey Him and serve Him, God will become your loving Father, your Protector, your Healer, the Giver of "every good and perfect gift" (James 1:17) and the One who has abounding love and mercy. "For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust" (Psalm 103:11-14).
When we pray, we yalways pray specifically to—the true God—and to no other. As we begin our prayer, we think about whom we are praying to and consciously worship this Great God (our Father) who gives us life and breath.

Just as human children are the same kind of beings as their parents (that is, human beings), so will God's children be the same kind of beings as the Father and Christ (that is, divine beings). This is the awesome destiny of mankind! The God family will expand through God's wonderful plan as revealed in His Word.
