hi. there are three factors to consider when trying to lose body fat ( i assume you wish to lose fat and not just weight). firstly diet, you say your attending weight watchers so i assume you have a pretty good diet, plenty of clean carbohydrates i.e. the closer a food is to it's natural state the easier your body will digest it, so you get the benefits of the food (energy, vitamins and so on ) without retaining unecessary calories.
secondly fat burning, this is all about having your heart rate in the right zone when you exercise. there is a simple formula to determine your fat burning zone. 220-your age/100 *60. for example i'm 31 so 220-31=189. 189/100=1.89. 1.89*60=113.4. so my fat burning zone is 113.4 heart beats per minutes give or take 5 bpm's. i hope thats clear enough.
you need to be in this zone for at least 20 minutes to start burning fat. i would suggest the best piece of equipment for this is a simple treadmill with a heart rate monitor. the intensity of this exercise may seem a little mild but this is how it is with fat burning, train harder and you'll burn carbs and not fat (trust me on this one). a small tip is to eat a bannana before a workout this will give you enegy and help your body break down fat cells.
finally you need to try and raise your metabolism, the best way to do this is to start a weights/resistance programme two to three times a week. find a quallified instructor to help you with this. with a higher metabolism your body will become more efficient giving you more energy and making your body burn more calories even when resting.
well hopefully that gives you a rough plan, best of luck. regards to your husband.

There are many unheathy ways so lose the weight. Weight Watchers is a highly respected diet plan but it may not work for everyone so I would like to make a suggestion. There is an amazing FREE (no strings attached at all!!) website that gives you a diet plan especially made for you, excercise plans that do not require you to have any excercise equiptment, and they have a wonderful support system that you can talk to people going through the same thing you are going throught, and they are truely there for you. I just started the program and I am very pleased with what I have seen. I would strongly suggest you take a look at it, I think it could really help you! the web address is www.sparkpeople.com ...I wish you all the best, and good luck!

When my soldier was deployed i did this same thing and he came back to a differant woman. I was 170 and he came back to a 135lb 5'9" woman that felt good about herself. You just have to commit! i lost the weight in completely and was toned in 8 months. I went to the gym almost everyday, I did the treadmill for atleast a half hour on an incline and eventually worked up to running 4 miles. Eliptical is great I would do that for 20 minutes with some resistance. Was only in the weight room for 10 minutes to work on abs and arms. Watch what you eat but dont starve yourself, just be good. If you workout it makes you feel good and you just wont want to cheat. Go at it real hard for a few weeks and you'll see some amazing results! The last few pounds are hard to loose but by that time he'll be about home and youll just make yourself reach that goal. Hey its worth it, he's over there in war you can alteast give him a treat to come home to (thats the way I looked at it). A good motivation is to buy your "goal size" jeans and try them on every week or so and then one day...they just fit. Good luck, I know you can do it! btw my mom lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks on weight watchers and mild walking:o)

Kristen,
First of all I want to thank your husband for helping all of us us here in America to know there is someone there who's doing their part for WORLD PEACE.
It may be some what unrealistic to believe that 50 pouunds can be lost in 7-8 months.
For a healthy level of loss 4-6 pounds per month is reasonable. That's about 28 pounds (4 each month) by the time he returns. He will be and so you will too just to see each other again. The weight loss is a nice thing, but NOT the most important. REALIZE THIS.

you can lose 3-4 lbs per month just by walking 1 hour or about 3 miles a day. You will find as you get into it that it also has value emotionally. Go for it ! Get a book that shows you calories of food and calories burned during exercises. It takes burning 3500 calories to lose 1 pound of fat. You will burn 100 calories with every mile that you walk. Drink alot of water to dull your appetite for food.....count your calorie intake, and remember if you take in more calories than you burn, you gain...If you burn more than you take in, you will lose...simple math. Every journey starts with a step....its true for all things. Just eat right today..burn more calories than you take in today...tomorrow, do the same. I swear that once you get into this, you will actually have fun...stay with it until it gets to be fun, okay? Good luck...I will say a good luck prayer for you

My suggestion to you is to not lose it any quicker than it happens while you are dieting and excercising. That amount of timeis plenty to have your man come home to the best present ever. You willl make it exponentially harder to keep the weight off ( let alone possibly harm yourself seriously) if you try anything other than a consistent and healthy regime of diet and exercise.

Start of slow. Don't cut down too much calory, because you will put back twice or tripple the weight you lost from starving yourself.
When I want to lose weight, I started to cut back on my meal a little by little. Eat more veg at each serving to fill you up. And "WALKING". Take slow walk at first and slowly increase your pace to light jogging. Walking will really help get rid of your belly fat.

I understand the need to get smaller quicker.........especially in your situation. But you need to lose the weight (2 pounds a week is optimal, if it is less than that, then reduce your calories or increase your workouts).
The last thing you need to do is do a big crash diet and then BOOM, your huge again. Slow and steady my friend.........you'll be fine.
