We're not discussing whether he exists or not, we're talking about the concept of God meaning 'fear' to someone.

We should have fear and respect for God..we need to remember He is Almighty God, Creator and Ruler of the universe. He is infinitely more powerful than us. But, although we should fear Him, we should love Him more. For God is love..not fear.

Depends which God you refer to. And I don't mean the Old Testament New testament cop outs. I'm talking other religions, counting the ones people call "myths" Myths are religions people quit believing in. But, if you're talking about the Christian God, then yes he is to be feared. That's part of his m.o. Accept me or go to hell. I'd say there would be far fewer Christians out there if as a child they weren't threatend with eternal torture, and given the choice of eternal life. Sounds like a sweet deal to me.

Man invented their God to be feared. A tactic that has continued to work for the Christian masses for a couple of thousand years.

He is the creator, and He is all powerful. If you are against Him, you are in great trouble. If you are on His side, it is very comforting. Read and obey Scripture. Avoid the errors of Heathenism and Sun worship, (like worshipping on Sunday), and He will make a great friend!

No, but he is a very frightening concept. That's why all the angels that come to people in the Bible say "Do not be afraid" first.

i believe that god is there to give comfort to people who pray to him, im no christian but when im feeling crap and have no one to turn to, it gives me a lot of comfort knowing that he will always be there listening regardless of colour/age or gender.
