Growing up I have heard people talking about worshiping the devil and some people actually claiming to worship the devil however i have never come across anything about it.The closest thing i found was Satainism which seems to be more about self worship than anything else. Is "worshiping the devil" accually a religon that people follow?

Yes it is a recognized religion.
In it's basic form it is nothing more that the catholic church turned upside down.

Devil Worship is a rebellious christian bastard child. It is rooted solely in Christianity and follows their tenets, in their own way. If you want to know more about Devil Worship and Satanism, read almost anything by Alistor Crowley, but keep in mind the it is purely christian in root.
Now above I am seeing some pretty extreme answers so remember, the best way to get the answer to a question is to do the research yourself.

when you worship the devil instead of god. So you talk to the devil and tell him to come back and do horrible stuff.
yh, it is a worship to people. If you're a mean sorta person who would never believe in god then they believe the devil wil control the world and it will be a better place.

My sister worships the devil so she is always mean and she has
A big poster of The devil and she has A life size thing of the Devil she goes sees the therapist every day~!!!!~

there are satanic worshipers. they actually sacrifice ppl to the devil. (usually homeless ppl or hitchhikers) i read a book on them from an ex satanic worshiper. (good book i might add) in pensacola fl, back in the early 90's (i believe) there was quite a few ppl that went to prison for killing cats. (they were drinking their blood too.) they were part of a cult. besides this, i would say anyone that doesnt serve God would have to be serving satan. (not like oh i love you satan) but scripture say whoever is not for God is against Him.

I take this a symbol of evil.
1 If you have greed, you are a follower of devil
2 If you kill others for fun or your idiotic reasons, you are a worshiper
3 If you lust after your friend or brother's wife, you a follower of a devil
4 If you lie and hurt others to get ahead, you are worshiper.
5 If you steal and cheat your way....you are a worshiper.

It's an abject WASTE OF YOUR TIME, as is any OTHER "religion" that demands that one worship a non-existent entity.
