Hello there. This is for all the Professional Wedding Photographers out there. How do you offer proofs to the couple? I personally was going a book of 4x6 prints, but I'm not feelin this. I saw the new Proof DVD coming out, but its $30.00 our cost. Any suggestions? if you make a proof, how do you do it. Whats the best way in photoshop to copyright your photos? How tacky is it to make proof sheets in photoshop and present it to your couple that way? I see a couple people doing this. I want it to look professional

Putting a watermark or tect with your name across it will help to protect them from making their own pics without paying you. It's ok to do this on a CD or DVD, just make the pics low resolution so if they try to print them, they get poor quality and will have to order them from you.

I like using the program Pro Show Gold 3.0 to put all the pics in a lside show. Sometimes if I think the people are computer savy I will make save it as a Flash file instead of an MPEG for them to view it.

If you're worried about having to inprint all those photos, just create an action to do it for you and it will take care of all of them for you.

$1500 is on the low end for most wedding photographers that I know of. I looked at his site and the photography is a nice variety. My only thing is that this list doesn't include the album, parent albums, gift prints or wall portraits. So you may contract for $1500 and then pay that again (and then some) when you order your album and other prints! If you really like this guy, see if he would negotiate an album into the price. If he is offering the images on CD or DVD with this package, then you will be printing them on your own and may you may wind up unhappy with the finished result unless you use a professional lab. So yes I would use him as my photographer based on the photography but not based on what the contract is listing (without knowing about prints and albums)

I present the film proofs in a box. There are several places you can order these from. I get mine from www.michelcompany.com. For digital, I burn CD's of hi-resolution, corrected, print ready images. Usually I include a handful of proofs with the CD, mostly so the couple can see how they should look. I just pick out about 10 of my favorites from the shoot and print them, either at my lab or sometimes at home.

I include a release with all my weddings, as I am not interested in dealing with print orders, although actually I have couples return to me to make prints for them. That is fine, but I just don't want the hassle of keeping up with all of it. I do not do on-line proofing, as I am still in the stone age with dial-up service.

Edit: I am not a professional wedding photographer, as I do not make 50% or more of my living from weddings. I think of myself as more of a "weekend warrior", although I shoot anywhere from 10 to 20 a year. So take my advice with a grain of salt. :-)

I've taken to using Adobe Lightroom's automatic flash slideshow generator. This way, the proofs are online for the family to see right away as well...

The sideshows have some decent customization options, and are also "right click" protected to maintain the integrity of your work against unauthorized downloads.

Cheers!

Low res images on a CD, they can view them at my location or I can send them the low res CD.
