I've been on my job for about 6 months now and they recently hired a new girl to work with me. She's been here like 4 days and every time I walk away from my desk for any length of time she changes the station I have my radio set to. I'm a black guy who just so happens to like to listen to talk radio and comedy duos during the day. It makes my day go by faster when i can hear something funny or get in on an interesting topic. I don't like a lot of music. I'm almost 40 so most of the music out today does not interest me. Her first day here she asked me if I listen to any black stations. i told her no. But every time my back is turned so is my radio. I'm trying to be nice since we share a common area but I'm not sure I can take much more of coming back to my desk and finding my radio on a station I don't listen to. What do you suggest? Again, I've told her I don't listen to that type of stuff.

Can you remove the knobs or is it a lever? I'd put it on the station you like and either remove the knob, jam the lever or even (if it's not too much trouble) unplug it each time you leave, if you can do it discreetly. Maybe if you're lucky, she'll transfer out soon. Other than that, I guess you just keep putting it back to what you want.

It's not just in hip-hop music on MTV. Do you think that the rock bands on MTV aren't repetitive with their songs as well? And the reason that MTV pushes all of this is because it SELLS. They target a massive chunk of the teenage audience. And if you think you can beat these advertisers in resisting them and their messages, believe me, you haven't seen anything yet. You might know what's up with MTV, or possibly even Viacom, but you don't know how good these people are. Trust me, they will ALWAYS be one step ahead of you. And what's with hating on Clear Channel Communications? The most they ever owned was about 40% of the stations in the US, but they sold off many of them. Can you even name 3 other media companies in the radio world?

Tell that she needs to leave your property alone - including your radio. Ask her if what you listen to is bothering her... if it is, maybe try plugging some headphones in.
