This is the sort of thing that a catholic school asks peopple to write about. I am not stirring up the already bubbling religious pot. The question is legit and I was just doing my best to answer it.

Sunday is a day for sleeping in, getting over the hangover when necessary and doing housework.

I wonder , is this really the sort of thing that schools ask people to write about?
Or are you just stirring up the already bubbling religious pot?
OK lets assume the question is legit.
I would say that I have read so much BS about which day is the real day of rest that I am completely confused , I am confused if the day is Friday as the Muslims think Or Saturday as the Jews believe or Sunday as the Christians believe!
I would round up my essay to suggest it was all a load of cobblers, right job done, let your teacher form a debate on your answer.

As a Christian I do agree with this, but on a different level, I also feel that with the advent of Sunday trading, a day of rest, whatever people's beliefs are has been lost. With time as precious as it is these days, a day of rest would be in everyone's interest, now that everything is open, working people can put off their shopping until Sunday, meaning they have little or no time to just be together around the home, get things at home done, visit family or just plain rest. I know of more and more people who not only work on a Sunday from home, but are expected to pop into work as well. As a child, we were not allowed to even call for friends or go round to their houses unless expressly invited by their parents, nor was anyone allowed to call round for us, or come in unless expressly invited. Sunday was a day spent with the family. Its a shame it is no longer like this. My family and I do go to church on a Sunday, but many of the people around us don't and they go shopping and some to work, its just another day now.

I really agree with fluffy.
But if you are able to then yes,but also a lot of ppl do work sundays.
No set day should be there to worship god...as long as you do it then whats the problem.
I do think though that all religions should be abolished and a new united one formed to rid of all the religious seperation and frustration about others' religion there is nowadays.
Then we could all have the same day/time etc of the week to not do anything but go to church.

No not at all, this is what man has said over the years, it did make more sense to have a gathering once a week so the day of rest was taken from the words of man in the bible, but it's well out dated, Why does someone need just one day a week to worship GOD you can do this anytime, any place

Nope. The Bible says "honor the Sabbath and keep it holy". The Sabbath is the 7th day, which is Saturday, not Sunday. The traditional Sabbath for Judaism, and many other religions, is Saturday. "Keeping the Sabbath holy" could mean any number of things, such as simply not working, a day set aside to take care of household things (including shopping), or a day spent with family.

Sunday was never to be used along the lines of "replacement theology" in regards to the sabbath command.

The first century Christians in Rome used to gather early on a Sunday morning for communal prayers before going about their usual business that day.

For you to believe it to be anything more than a day for communal worship and prayer is to add to the word of God what is not there.

There is nothing holy about Sunday. There is no command to observe it as such.

You are looking at it through legalistic eyes.

My county has the blue law where almost all stores close except for food stores. This is not fair and I don't agree because we only 2 days on the weekend for us working folks to get things done. Then we have other obligations. Just not enough time to get everything done on a Saturday.

As I Christian I would have to say yes but I do understand why people do trade and shop on a Sunday. Especially now people wk 6/7 day weeks. You don't want to go dragging your children round the supermarket late in the evening when they should be in bed. I try not to shop on a Sunday but sometimes I have to. I know God forgives me because he knows I do my best. to keep my Sunday's sacred.x

Christians worship God on a Sunday, Muslims on a Friday. Jews on Friday night and Saturday. Shoppers worship mammon on all of these days.

The holy books of the world say that every day is a day for worshipping god, not just 'the' holy day.

Now tell me, since you think that Sunday is a day for worshipping god do you worship god on a Sunday from the minute you get up to the minute you go to sleep, or do you do other things on a Sunday too?

I thought so. You don't think Sunday is a day for worshipping god either. I smell a hypocrite.
