i was changing channel,all of a sudden its showing strange writings,after some time it goes to sleeping mode?

last 2 days before i was changing channels,all of a sudden it showed like"why should i buys this tv",then something about "closed captions",and then it just went off in the sleeping mode.then it started the same thing.and the keys in the tv r not working and when ever i plug it in,it starts the same things.what is it?.is it totally screwed up or there is some minor problem which i can fix it at home.

There is probably a display mode built into the TV. You will need to read the instructions on how to get out of that mode.
