Foot is more painfull, because there isn't much skin on your foot and your skin is also more sensitive than on your hip.

I have tattoo's on both of those places. I have 4 on my feet. One big one on my hip, from the hip down to my leg. The foot hurts more than the hip.

first and foremost, don't listen to these people that it tells you it hurts more here because of this and that. a tattoo varies in pain due to the amount of nerve endings you have in that location. hence why getting a tattoo on the back part of your arm or butt cheek would hurt more. it does not hurt more in areas that contain more muscle or bone. the pain associated with any tattoo varies from person to person
i have a tattoo on both my hip (a kitty face) and on my foot (my daughter's footprint from her certificate of birth). if you were to ask me which hurt more, i couldn't tell you. each had areas of the tattoo where they hurt. the kitty face was my first tattoo and it didn't hurt nearly as bad as i thought it would (hence me getting two more lol). the one on my foot hurt a little more when it comes to shading because obviously a footprint has a lot of detail.
if you have your heart dead set on getting a tattoo...get a basic tattoo that doesn't contain a lot of shading. the only downfall with getting a tattoo on your foot is that there isn't really any shoe you can wear that doesn't rub it. it doesn't hurt persay...just uncomfortable for a few days. if you can...wear flip flops for those days. easy to take them off to let your tattoo breath.
good luck! and make sure you get an artist that makes you feel comfortable! (you can ask them to stop for a minute too).
i've noticed that once you get going in the tattoo, your body adjusts to the pain, and it isn't as uncomfortable.

Hi, I have plently of tattoos and hjave both my feet heavily tattooed, and the foot hurts like hell! You should never let your fear of pain prevent you from getting a tattoo you want as its all about the result for life, but please be prepared for techniques to deal with the pain, such as relaxation techniques, breathing out when the needle is on you, etc....but foot tattoos look gorgeous, so go for it!

Well, it depends on if it's on the top of the foot or the bottom, and also where it's located.
If it's on the top ANYWHERE it hurts a lot because the nerves are closer to the skin, but if it's on the bottom it still hurts, just not as much.
Also, if it's on the arch of your foot, on the bottom, it hurts a lot because the nerves are close to the skin there.

The foot hurts because you have less meat on your foot . Your foot is made of mostly skin and bones.
