Hi
I've just got two new hard drives and I can't install Windows XP on it?! It was working last night but I didn't have time to do it so turned it off. Now every time it goes to install it looks like it's trying to load from the disk not install. Then it comes up with a blue screen saying the bios is not fully ACPI compliant, yet I know for a fact that it is! Is there a way of getting it to install?

Please bear in mind this is two new hard drives to replace my old one which is broken, so I can't download any files or programs to help me!
How do I format using DOS? How do I check if it ACPI?

It's possible that the BIOS has been accidentally set to non ACPI mode. Check in the BIOS to ensure ACPI is enabled.
Also update the Bios if you have not already done it.
Pressing a key or a combination of keys before the Operating System begins to load will access the BIOS. Some common keys are ESC, F1, F2, F10, Ctrl-Del or Del

I had that happend to me before.
Put the Cmos Jumper on clear for about 15 seconds, remove the Memory sticks for about 15 seconds. Replace the bios jumper to its original setting and put back in the memory. Boot up your System to the Bios Menu, select Default set up or Load best defaults. Also make sure your first boot device is your cdrom.
If that doesnt work Remove or disable all cards exept the video card and repeat the steps above, once you got windows loaded you can reisntall your cards one by one.

Try a clean DOS format on your hard disk or its better to use a utility that wipe all the data on your hard disk like maxtor or seagate utilities that have a low level formating capabilities and utilities to prepare your drive to what OS you want to install.

Boot again from the CD, tell it to install, then if it shows you existing partitions use the D option to delete them, create new partitions and continue the install.
