My neighbors found this cute little kitten and I went to go hold it. The next day they took it to the doctor to get it checked out and they said it had a lung disease and could have rabies. Then i just remembered that the other day when i held this cat I held my cat right after and didnt wash my hands. This morning my cat wasnt acting quite normal and it was two days ago that this happened. What are the signs of my cat being sick? she seemed kind of lazy today and he eyes are a bit droopy. please help

Take him to your vet and tell him all that you told me. Better safe than sorry.

First, take you cat to the vet immediately and explain what happened. Since you didn't specify what sort of lung disease the kitten had nobody can really answer your question for you. Rabies is passed through fluids and so long as you have made sure your cat is vaccinated and boostered regularly, you shouldn't have a problem. All strays potentially have a list of diseases, including rabies, feline lukemia, aids, etc. that are transmitable in various ways. Unless you know what disease, you don't know wether is can be transmitted through 3rd party contact.

Should I reiterate how important it is to wash your hands regularly when dealing with animals, or should I assume you learned your lesson.

I have to agree, take your cat to the vet and explain to him or her what happened. Have you talk to the neighbor? Did the kitten have rabies? You should be talking to a dr. also if rabies was suspected and you held the kitten.

Why was the kitten put down? What about the rabies? Maybe you both should go to the drs.

If you touched your cat after touching the kitten, you can transmit certain diseases to your cat. Rabies is not one of them though. The kitten would have to scratch or bite your cat to spread rabies. But if the lung disease is something contagious, watch out for sneezing, runny nose, coughing, watery eyes, not eating, not drinking, or difference in behavior. I would take the cat to the vet if she starts to act lethargic or has any of these symptoms.
But your cat might not get sick at all, just something to watch out for.
Good luck

Call the vet and ask what are the chances this has been passed on to your cat. This is a serious disease and I think a vet visit is the best and only thing that could save it's life.

Get your cat to the vet right away. It won't have rabies (you can't transmit that just by holding one cat and then another) but it may have some kind of upper respiratory infection. Some will clear up on their own but others won't. Don't wait.

Is your cat current on his rabies shot and other vaccinations?

Was the kitten actually rabid or was that just a guess? A guess doesn't make it so.

Coughing isn't a sign of rabies.

it could be a coincidence, but better safe than sorry and get your cat to the vet. odds are your cat is fine because your cat should be up to date with it's rabies shot.

If you are worried you should take your cat to the vet and not wait until it gets sick.
