For those who believe hell is a place of eternal firey torment, how do you explain Rev 20:13
"13. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." (KJV)

According to the Bible hell is to be destroyed. The lake of fire isn't a place in hell, it represents the second death. Can you explain this?

After the events just foretold, the end will speedily come; and there is no mention of any thing else, before the appearing of Christ to judge the world. This will be the great day: the Judge, the Lord Jesus Christ, will then put on majesty and terror. The persons to be judged are the dead, small and great; young and old, low and high, poor and rich. None are so mean, but they have some talents to account for; and none so great, as to avoid having to account for them. Not only those alive at the coming of Christ, but all the dead.

There is a book of remembrance both for good and bad: and the book of the sinner's conscience, though formerly secret, will then be opened. Every man will recollect all his past actions, though he had long forgotten many of them. Another book shall be opened, the book of the Scriptures, the rule of life; it represents the Lord's knowledge of his people, and his declaring their repentance, faith, and good works; showing the blessings of the new covenant. By their works men shall be justified or condemned; he will try their principles by their practices. Those justified and acquitted by the gospel, shall be justified and acquitted by the Judge, and shall enter into eternal life, having nothing more to fear from death, or hell, or wicked men; for these are all destroyed together.

This is the second death; it is the final separation of sinners from God. Let it be our great concern to see whether our Bibles justify or condemn us now; for Christ will judge the secrets of all men according to the gospel.

All has to do with the translations. The word hell in that verse is normally translated hades which is the place where the dead (nonbelieving dead) go until the Great white throne judgment, then they are cast into the lake of fire (real hell) for eternity. The Bible can't be understood a verse at a time, you really need to study the whole thing and fit the whole thing together.

Hell is a holding place for those who are on their way to the lake of fire. You see that it says those who were in hell were judged according to their works because they rejected Jesus's gift. Since they did that they will have to pay with their own lives. Hence the second death; the lake of fire.

ok, as of this moment, hell is the place where those who have died and NOT believed that Jesus , died was buried and rose again for their salvation, are until they are put before Jesus at the final judgment.... People, ALL people will get a NEW body, not like we have now, those who do NOT believe, their body will be worthy ONLY of the lake of fire, which is NOT the kind of fire we know, but is a continual conscious remembrance of the sins, wrongs, etc., these people have done during their lives on earth..... it is the SEPARATION of these from Jesus/God for all eternity, that is the second death..... they will have no peace, no rest, no comfort, just an eternity of UNREST....... I do NOT know what each kind of spiritual body will be or look like..... but each will be fit for where ever is goes....... hope this helps....... go in peace..... God bless

Hell is the place of torment until that time. At this time, hell and the lake of fire become one. Then the new heaven and the new earth appear.

yes and yes.

hell is the grave where souls are held after the flesh death.

after the resurrection of the new body/transfigured body some of those souls who weren't "saved" will again be judged AFTER the millennial reign of Jesus.

those who are judged to the lake of fire, that is the second death. death of the soul. turned to ashes and destroyed with the grave/hell and death/satan.

first is the death of the flesh/vessel.

nice and simple.

You are in a way right, the lake of fire is beneth hell. Hell is the place where evil people and sinners go when they die, until the day of the judgement of God.

The only logical explaination is that the Lake of Fire and Hell and the rest of the fanciful stuff about beasts with seven heads etc are ALL symbolic things and NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY.

there is hell, hades, and Sheol.
There is a hell in the center of the earth that will be destroyed. That is different than the eternal version of hell.

They cannot, nor can they explain this verse which clearly says that the wicked will be completely burned up and will become ashes under the feet of the righteous...

Malachi 4:1-3 (KJV)
For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.

edit: And for those who claim that the body is destroyed but not the soul, there is another text they cannot explain...

Ezekiel 18:4
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
