Both of these insurance companies have significantly lower rates than what I currently pay at American Family, but by switching am I going to get discount service as well?
I am a 25 year old male with two accidents and one speeding ticket in the past five years. Currently pay around close to $1000/6mo at AmFam, both Geico and Progressive are close to $500/6mo.

I drive a 2000 Ford Focus sedan, and live in North Dakota.
esurance does not have coverage in North Dakota.

I think the best thing to do is compare about their services, rates, policies and other things that related to car insurance. You can try to use their site, try to visit this one http://www.nightbirdssolutions.com for your reference. Goodluck

Please definitely review what they are giving you and make sure that you're not getting a lower amount of coverage at a lower price. I know that American Family generally doesn't write low limit policies, but Geico and Progressive do.. both of those companies don't like to discuss coverages with you either so you might be jumping into this without even realizing that they've set you up with lower limits! Best thing to do is pull out your Declarations Page (or call AmFam and ask them for your coverages), then have both companies do a run-down of your coverages with them. Make sure you're really getting a good deal.

As for the discount services.. Geico and Progressive are two of the top six companies in the industry. On a case-by-case basis, lots of customers might have complaints but generally speaking? They do what they do well. I personally wouldn't go with either but I'm an insurance snob. ;) Either company should be more then able to give you what you need!

Good luck!

I work for an insurance company in NC and if I had to choose between the two companies, I would go with Progressive versus GEICO. GEICO doesn't have a very good reputation in our area.

I dont have any personal experience w/ geico, but I have to say I haven't heard the best things about them either. I have progressive, and I've been w/ them for years. They are pretty fair and I've never had a problem w/ customer service. Just make sure that the quotes that you received were comparable in coverages, and that that's not the reason they are so much lower.

I've had both and would definitely recommend Progressive. I had a minor fender bender a few weeks ago and they handled it flawlessly. The accident happened on Monday, my car was fixed by Thursday with no out of pocket deductible. A claims rep was in contact with me everyday with updates. Plus they are lower priced than any other insurance company in the area.

i would love to know what you are driving because i am paying $700/6mo on a 04 nissan sentra and i am 38yr female with a clean record....am going through progressive...lemme tell you these guys are great...you should get a discount if you are up for renewal and have no lapse in coverage....i got my car stuck and called my ins agent and apparently i was paying for roadside assistance (like $3 a month on my premium)...so i called them and a tow truck came in like 30 min and got my car unstuck all at no charge to me....yeah i like progressive

If you're sure you're comparing apples to apples, and have the same coverage from both companies, choose whichever you prefer.

As a personal choice, I have Progressive and get wonderful service from them.
