Do you suppose that if the Lord revealed all of His will for our lives at once that we probably would have run away scared to death?

I think about this every now and then when I pray. Maybe I'm not alone on this but, have you ever prayed to God like this:

"Lord.....please show me what you want me to do"

Or maybe this one:

"Lord......please show me Your will for my life"

I'm so glad that He's in charge....and I'm not. I'm also greatfull that He answers prayer in His time.....and not according to my timetable.

Praise God

This is not without precedent in scripture. Elisha told Hazael exactly what he was going to do in slaughtering so many in Israel in the future, but Hazael would not believe it--it was too horrible to consider. It happened just as Elisha told him. (ref. 2 Kings 8)

Amoz told the sick Hezekiah was told that he was going to die, and Hezekiah wept so much over this, that God extended his years. It was during this time that Hezekiah made his worst blunder in showing off the riches to the emissaries of Babylon. As a result, Babylon plotted to overthrow the kingdom. (ref 2 Kings 20)

When Jesus told Peter that he would deny Him three times, it was met by unbelief as well as Peter trying very hard to do the polar opposite (swinging his sword about in Gethsemane).

If we knew God's will for us, we would probably not believe it (as did Zacharias to the news given by Gabriel) or seek to intervene with our own fleshly ways (as did Abraham and Sarah regarding Hagar).

The fact is, if we knew the will of God in our lives, it would be like exercising for the Olympics by riding in a car. Faith is like a spiritual heart muscle, it needs to be properly trained and exercised. God purposely does not tell or reveal to us so that we will trust Him--thus exercising faith. You can see this with the children of Israel with the Red Sea on one side, and the armies of Pharaoh on the other. God did not reveal His plan and purpose until the last minute.

I use to have a saying, "what else Lord; I don't know what else could go wrong" but little did I know God knew how much I could bare and His will, will be done. What ever God has planed for me, I usually pray for strength, wisdom, understanding and knowledge from God to accomplish what He has lead me to do. I know no matter what task, circumstance or situation I am in; through God all things are possible.

If God reveals all of His plan for my life I would know one thing, Since He is the one that brought me to it; I would lean on Him all the way to bring me through it; because me, myself and I; will not; nor can not; do it. I usually pray for God's will to be done, not mine. Out of all the trials and test in my life, I do not grudge a one and I know God will only do what is best for me. I totally trust Him with my life; because He has planned and ordained it. I am so grateful I have him in charge, because I would make a mess of everything. Praise God; for His loving grace and mercies.

Well...yes I have prayed those prayers that you've prayed...but to answer your other question...I don't believe I would have run away scared if He revealed His plans for me ahead of time...The only reason I say that is this : I now that His plans for me are nothing but the best. He wants nothing more than for me to be happy. And I will acheive that happiness He's laid out for me if I continue to follow His plan.

You are on the right Track Primoa! God Bless You and your ministry.

Consider God's words to Jonah: "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me." God told Jonah His will for his life: go to Israel's most vicious enemy and tell it to repent! So what did Jonah do? He did what most of us would do if God told us His entire plan: he ran as fast as his feet could carry him! Surely Jonah would agree that God's directive was a bit much to handle, because it came all at once.

The problem is that many of us are fearful that, should we pray that God show us His will for our lives, He will give us some huge assignment like God gave to Jonah. True, God may do this for some of us. But most of us only need to see a situation with spiritual eyes to understand that God has given them a special mission.

For example, one day I was driving on a major highway and one of my tires went flat. It just "felt" like God had stopped me there, so I prayed that He would use me for whatever purpose He had in mind. To make a long story short, I ended up presenting the gospel to four people and encouraging three Christians who were having very bad days. I know that was God's will, because it glorified Him. Was I inconvenienced? Yes, but my will didn't matter. And once I saw the purpose for my being there, my will changed, too! Now I wanted what God wanted!

The point is this: our lives are made up of billions of such moments. If we listen with spiritual ears and see with spiritual eyes, we will see His will. The more we hear and see what He wants us to, the closer we are to walking within His will for our lives. It's a daily journey.

I'm glad he didn't reveal all to me.
I was a very "strong" person. I didn't need anyone. I was one tough women. Little things used to get to me and I was very angry. I feel the only way I was going to change was just how God did it.
Had I known I would have a handicapped child, sick mother and had to care for her and a sick mother in law I would have run for the hills. And even though this hard experience left me burned out, stressed, and broken, it was the only thing that changed me.

I now don't sweat the small stuff. I don't fear mentally challenged people or kids, I don't say, "oh gross you want me to wipe who's butt?" --lol.
I am a changed person. I am not as selfish IMHO.

I agree with you. He knows we can't cope with all he has planned for us straight away. Many Christians run away when God asks them to do a little thing for him.
I have prayed prayers like those. They are dangerous prayers, because you never know what God has for you. Exciting though.

Praise the Lord!!

there is the reality of a greater advantageous resurrection to seem forward to, for people who refused to compromise with the international and took the Gospel to the international (Heb. 11:35 & 40; there is likewise the long record of saints from the OT, additionally given in Hebrews financial ruin 11, who would be rewarded for his or her faith and perseverance. one million Cor. 3:11-15 makes the comparable component). however the actual attempt would be no count if people who evangelise at severe possibility of existence, reformatory, livelihood or convenience, accomplish that out of a prefer to work out others saved, and Christ's call glorified right here in the international, or purely to learn the rewards (which truly is a form of the 'works' warned against via Jesus in Matt. 6 Vv 2, 5 & sixteen). It as a result follows that that's greater advantageous to hearken to Christ, extremely than attempt and provoke Him via the variety of works we do (Lk. 10:38-40 two); Jesus replaced into no longer advocating IDLE Christianity right here, yet ATTENTIVE Christianity, listening for the words He might say, and appearing on what He needs accomplished, no longer what we predict of He needs accomplished (Acts sixteen:6-9 supplies a sturdy occasion of actively listening to, and obeying, God's education). wish this permits; might God bless all who particularly look for the reality approximately Him.

Amen... we are definitely human and I too ask that He reassures me that I am making right decisions and on the right path.
So many get a Word and run with it...oops... and have to backup... or fall away because they get discouraged because of lack of understanding.
One thing I've learned God never changes...but, circumstances in this life here on earth do and that's a hard lesson to learn in it's self.<><

I have thought about this as well. I know that we couldn't handle seeing all the future and what we are and are to become. So much of ministry and walking comes from trials. I am not ready to see all that at once.

Just like that old hymn says. "One day at a time"
