this is a school of thought I have been struggling with for quite a while. Judism and christians have the same basic faith - based on the old testament. One important difference is the Son of God. How do converts justify giving that up and the savalation that is promised.

By rejecting the Holy spirit. Once you give it up no matter what you do you can not gain it back.

A person who switches from Christianity to Judaism commits apostasy which is abandonment of a previous faith. You will lose your salvation because the Bible says you cannot come back to Christ again. You cannot crucify Christ twice. I am a Christian and I love the Jewish people and they will eventually come to Christ but it will be at the last minute before Christ comes back to save them (from the anti-christ) as a warrior king like they always believed the messiah would-not as a meek man of sorrows or a Son of God. Salvation was offered to the world because of the Jew's rejection but they will be "grafted" back on the Tree of Life, the Bible states. (I must add that most theologians believe that a person wasn't really a Christian if they convert to something else. A person who has the Holy Spirit would never do that and you can only get that from the risen Christ).

They come to believe that Jesus was not the sacrifice for all sins, that sort of thing, while retaining respect for God Himself. Jesus was, after all, a good Jewish boy.

Mostly, people who convert do so because of a spouse of a different religion. So my guess is their Christian faith was never critical to them, or they would not marry a non-Christian.

In Judaism, our salvation comes from doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with our God, following the commandments in a manner that will bring glory to His name. Christians have decided that this isn't good enough, and must visualize God in the form of this man Jesus. But we were warned against this: "Thou shalt not look upon My face and live" seems pretty straightforward.

In general, Jews don't accept conversions. At least there's no generally-accepted procedure, and we don't evangelize. But since the religion is congregational--that is, every congregation is essentially independent--anyone who wants to can accept converts and make up appropriate ceremonies and documents for the purpose.

A person isn't really a Christain unless they accept Christ's sacrifice on the cross as their payment in full for sins.

Once a Christian belongs to Christ, "no man can pluck you out of His hand."

Meaning, a Christian DOESN'T convert. Why would he/she want to! So if someone merely attended a Christian church, but never actually accepted Christ, THEN became a Jew, that's another story.

My sister converted from Christianity to Judiaism. She didn't reject Jesus's message of love and charity (after all, Jesus was a Jew himself and took these principles from his own religion); but she no longer believes that he was the Son of God.

Quite easily: not believing that Jesus is worthy of worship, or that the New Testament is legitimate canon.

They don't necessarily reject Jesus. But as long as they follow their heart, there are no problems. Believing in Jesus my self I would say he would possibly be slightly disappointed, But, in many ways, converting to Judaism is better then some of the christian churches. And as long as it is something that really wants to be done and feels right, the are no complaints.

If they don't believe Jesus was the son of god then they probably aren't too worried about his offer of salvation.

Well, obviously, if they start living their lives in the same way Jesus did, eventually they'll reach the point of acting TOO much like Jesus, and they'll steal his thunder... So Christians teach they get to burn in all eternity for it.
