Far from my village there are a clutch of fields that have no farmhouse nearby and are serviced only by a narrow trackway that I never see another soul on, but the fields are always worked.

So where can I go to meet whoever owns the land, to see if he'll grant me permission for a bit of rough shooting?

Thanks

Well, if it's worked, someone's working them. Pass by as often as you can and ask them.

Inquire at the local farm supply or farm machinery merchant. They usually know who owns what. They may also know the owner and his temperment towards allowing requests such as yours.

Make your request in writing and in person. A simple note will suffice, stating who you are, your contact information and your committment to be respectful to their property. Thank them for their consideration of your request.

Bring this to the landowner in person. I have been allowed to hunt on private land by ranchers who are known to alwyas say "No" to others simply by making the request on paper and providing my information to them. It eliminates you as a 'stranger' and gives you some credibility.

Go onto the Land Registry website. You will need to knoweither the postcode of the land or an address. It will cost you about £3 to find out. It took me about 5 minutes to chechk out a proerty using it.

Go to the house nearest the farmland and ask them. Most farmers know who owns property in their area. They might even have a phone number for them.

The property tax assessor will have all the information on who owns the property.
Here in the U.S., it is a simple matter to look them up on the internet and either write to them or call them on the telephone.
Possibly you have the same ease of information there in the U.K.

Good Luck!!!
