What is the difference between impressing and impressive.

It is confusing. Can you give an example.?

I am still very confused.

I have heard. "It is very impressing"
also "it is impressive"


Could you please give two examples?

Impressive is an adjective. Or having the ability to impress.

Where as impressing implies an action, a verb.


EDIT: In you're example you are saying

"that is impressing"
you are saying that the object is doing something. It is impressing you.

To say that "it is impressive"
You are describing the object as having the ability to impress. So it is impressing you, and you find it impressive.


Impressing is an action. The description of the action is impressive.

Impressive is an adjective, it describes a noun as in "That is an impressive mountain".

Impressing is a verb, it is an action as in "the dog was impressing us with it's tricks".

One is a verb and one an adjective.

She is impressing the importance of education on her children by making them do their homework.

The Taj Majal is an impressive gift to give a wife.

Impressing, is the act of really wowing someone. Impressive is what wowed them.

We were quite impressed with the symphony orchestra's performance. (or with someone)

The critics thought the symphony orchestra's performance was rather impressing. (it left an impression on them)

Impressing is something you try to do to other peolple yourself. Impressive means that people are impressing you.
