because Christians think Jesus took the law away. And he didn't
Mathew 5:17 17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
He is saying in clear words the law will not go away until the earth disappears.
Matthew 8:30-32 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs."
He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.
Now If Jesus knew these pigs were good for food he would not have wasted all those pigs that could have fed a lot of people.
I don't eat pork because pigs are disgusting. They will eat anything. God put them on the earth as basically a clean up crew. And there are plants you can eat and some are poisonous and meat is the same
Also in the book of acts in that vision it was not talking about food at all. The meaning was he should not call any MAN unclean
Acts 10:9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat."
"Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean."
The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.
but later on it says
Acts 10:28
He said to them: "You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean.

Judging by your use of quotations around "unclean" etc., you all seem pretty offended by the fact that pigs aren't the cleanest of animals. It's not about their habitat, otherwise we wouldn't be eating cows either. Look at the science behind it; be more informed and dig up the rational, logical side of things. No-one mentioned the overall health benefits of pork--there are pretty much none. Pork is just fat and hypertension building sh*t. Pigs don't sweat and have no lymphatic system, hence they do not expel toxins in the same way other animals do. This isn't a problem for the pig since they're genetically predisposed, but when we eat pork, we are directly taking in these toxins so even eating organic pork won't make a difference in the toxicity level because their anatomy hasn't changed. Regardless of how badly you want to eat pork, NO fitness/health specialist will agree that pork in the diet is okay, because unless you are alright with hypertension and pounds of ugly and unhealthy fat on your body and want to be more prone to strokes, it's not.

I have a few explanations for that:
1) There are a few passages in the New Testament (NT) that essentially reverse the law. I don't actually have any memorized, but supposedly there are a couple of lines that say something like, "It's not what you consume that matter, rather it's what you do..." Again, I'm not sure where this is. I'm Jewish, so I'm not all that familiar with the NT.
2) Supposedly, when Jesu sacrificed himself on the cross, he did so for the sins of the people, so Christians are no longer subject to Mosaic laws. In other words, the NT overules the OT. (There is a serious flaw in this logic since few Christians are willing to deny the parts of the OT that suggest that God created the Earth or that murder is a sin.)
3) Christianity needed to gain support back when the religion was forming, if it was to survive. Ostracizing farmers would have done the exact opposite.
4) The prohibition on pork makes no sense. Don't steal and don't murder are fine rules to live by, but don't eat pork is ridiculous. Even I think that law is crazy and I am a Jew.

The ban on eating pork really grew out of practical health reasons than anything else. Pork takes a long time to cook, so nomadic people would probably not have the time to cook it properly and would become ill.
You probably have forgotten that for centuries, Catholics could not eat any meat on Fridays--until sometime in the 1960s and Vatican II.

I don't eat pork because of the cholesterol. The new testament places no restrictions on eating pork or any other meat fit for human consumption.

Because the dietary laws of the Old Testament were the Mosaic Law and Christ fulfilled the Mosaic Law and gave us a New Covenant.
We no longer live under the law, but by Grace.

Christians believe in the New Testament for starters, which means they believe in Jesus and that he was the son of God. In the book of Acts in the new testament it says that all meats are now clean to God as long as they are eaten with giving thanks to God. Jews and Muslims do not believe in Jesus. They have a lot of the same beliefs. Of course that should be since they are all kinfolk in some way, just distant cousins. Once Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave and is now in Heaven standing at the right hand of the Father we are no longer under the law of the old testament, and let me say that a lot of Jews and Muslims are now Christian in their beliefs and I am glad to say that they will be in heaven with me some day.. The question you need to ask is whether you will be in Heaven someday. If you believe in Jesus you can say a Prayer right now and get saved if you believe in him. Just say Dear Jesus, I believe that you came to earth to die on a cross for me to be a perfect sacrifice for my sins, I believe you rose from the grave the third day as the Bible says, I now ask you to forgive me of all of my sins and come into my heart and save me, In the name of Jesus Amen.. If you Prayed this Prayer with a sincere heart believing in Jesus you just got born again. Praise the Lord, Now read your Bible, go to Church and serve the Lord with all your Heart. Praise ye the Lord!! I hope you said that Prayer and that you meant it. May God Bless YOU!!!

you couldn't eat pork for sanitary reasons back then, but if you choose not to eat it now, it's for traditional reasons.
Plus, the Jews follow the OT, which is where the pork law is at.
