usually a few weeks. It depends if they are just doing a local background check or a broader check meaning local, state and federal records. Each job is different with how much they check or how far back they go but it usually takes a few weeks.

Finger paints are a lot of fun. They really take you back to a much simpler time when mom and dad guided you in deciding what was right and what was wrong. Arrest records and convictions are matters of public record and there are companies specialized in digging it out and presenting it to prospective employers. For a fee. If your employer hired such a firm, you might expect them to dig it up. They don't need your fingerprints for that, though. They need only that other stuff you gave them. You know, like name, social, address, etc. Job-seeker tip! Never place the booking officer's name on your list of personal references.

I work in a casino and get fingerprinted every few years to update everything, the law in Vegas.They usually send them first to the local police and then to the FBI.I can start work within a few days but that may just be Veags.They will fire you if things aren't right.

The only time I have been fingerprinted for a job, I was sent to a fingerprinting service, it was done and I immediately returned to my employer with the prints.
