Okay here's the situation. It happened yesturday evening. I was sitting down on my couch, and all of a sudden I got this really heavy and uncomforitable feeling in my chest, I would say it was in my lower chest part. Anyway, I thought nothing of it at first, but I did tell my mother that my chest hurt! So I walked around a little then sat down agin because it was really uncomforitable. I can say it felt like someone was sitting on my chest. So, as the hour went on, I noticed it wasn't easing up and it kind of felt like it was getting worse, and then I felt like I couldn't breathe, but I think I was just starting to panic. Anyway my parents had the ambulance take me to the hospital, and they did an ekg, and blood work, took an x ray, and some other stuff, but everything came back fine. I just am not sure what it can be, I know I know, I have to go to my doc to follow up, I just want some input from others also. So if anyone knows something I don't know, please give me your input!

Well hon - first... you were wise to seek a doctor's work up when dealing with those symptoms.
ANYTIME you deal with such symptoms - take one regular asperine... it helps thin your blood in case there IS a heart problem.
Next - I have delt with this since my 20's in three ways.
One - I get occasional infections in my sternum, and the blood work will show if you have an infection, which antibiotics can deal with easily. Your doctor work up would have shown this. (Gas and heartburn would also be able to be found by the doctor... both are painful in the chest area.)
Two - I have some severe allergies. When exposed to tobacco, my body attacks me, not only swelling my throat shut, filling my lungs with fluid, and often putting fluid on my heart giving me congestive heart problems... easily delt with by anthistamines and diuretics. Your doctor's exam would have also shown this.
Lastly - (and what I'll bet you delt with that night...) occasionally I supress the stress I'm dealing with, and my body reacts with a Panic Attack.
A Panic Attack has identical symptoms to a heart attack without any heart difficulty involvement. It is the result of a sudden rush of adrenalin.
Your best bet is to start with a close friend or family member - talking out all the things causing you stress... and dealing with the day-to-day stressors directly - remembering that all of us tend to blow off dealing with things that trouble us, only to have our fears and worries come back stronger. Talking helps.
If you find that it does not - seek a counselor trained in dealing with Panic Attacks. They may get you a mild medication to help you with them. More often than not - they will simply teach you how to focus and relax through an attack to make it disapate.
As you talk out your fears and worries and things that cause you stress - your attacks will lesson - if not disappear.
I haven't had an attack in years... but I went the counseling route.
Good luck hon. Thos attacks are terrifying and feel like the end of the world - but you can control them.
PEACE hon.

Im 25 and been having chest pains for many years, been to the hospital many times, had x-rays, ekg, everything and they can never find anything but they always tell me its something called COSTOCHONDRITIS which is basically the inflammation of the cartilage between the breast bone and ribs, u can google it for more info. The dr's basically told me there's really no reason or cause of it but usually stress can be a cause. I get it all the time and it hurts like crazy! hope that helps!!

At 24 your risk of a cardiac problem is low, but not non-existent. It was really wise to go and get a work up to be sure.
Chances are at your age it could be muscular/stress. However, it could also be a respiratory issue or an intermittent cardiac problem, not likely, but possible. So, if the pain returns, go back for another set of tests. In the meantime, try not to over do it. No heavy lifting that could strain the chest muscles.
If you smoke, try to quit.

I would say anxiety is the cause of your chest pains, even if you don't feel stressed you could be. The bad thing about anxiety attacks is that your chest pains cause more anxiety, which can cause shortness in breath, I have had anxiety attacks before and they are not fun. The best thing is if your stressed about anything talk to someone about it or write it down because keeping it in will just cause another anxiety attack

Does it happen often? Usually late afternoon, early evening?
If so it's probably acid reflux. The symptoms can mimic a heart attack. Very intense tightening and crushing of the chest and sometimes stomach area. See a doctor who may order an upper GI. If acid reflux there's plenty of good prescription drugs as well as over the counter stuff available.

You were probably having a panic attack. I have had them before and sometimes my chest feels tight when I get them, but not like someone is sitting on my chest. Ask your doctor about anxiety and that should answer your questions.

It sounds exactly like an anxiety attack. I have em all the time. They usually go away anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour.
