Average peak time is 11-14 days into the season but there are exceptions as there is to every rule. Have known females that were ovulating as early as day 5 and late as 28 days after their season began.

Only when she is receptive to the male. Generally, this in only for a few days during the heat cycle.
There are a LOT of sites that explain canine reproduction and breeding. I really suggest that you do some research before you breed.
I also assume she had had all the health clearances required...like OFA of hips and elbows, and CERF for eyes.

Otherwise you may be adding more problemed Labs to the world.

The period of a female dog in heat presents itself twice a year, usually around spring time(from January – March) and in autumn(from August – October). There are a lot of exceptions though; small dogs usually have a period of 4 months and the larger ones of 8, whereas the female Basenji only have it once a year.

Here are a couple of fazes the dog goes through when it's in heat:

Before being in heat; the loss of blood, this usually last for 10 days.
During in heat; this usually also lasts 10 days, strong excitement and seeking to mate;
stage is over and refuses or declines it.
When their lips or vagina are swollen it means they are in heat. The female dog leaves her urine as traces and attracts other stranger male dogs.
Spaying your pet before her first estrous cycle (that is, before she reaches sexual maturity) greatly reduces her chances of developing breast cancer and completely eliminates the threat of uterine and ovarian cancer and uterine infection, which are common occurrences in unaltered females.
Millions of pets are being euthanized every year due to over breeding. Spay & Neuter =)

Contact your vet.. He is likely to want to wait til she is out of heat to spay her.. That's okay tho. Just be careful and keep her away from males!

Glad you aren't going to breed her, the World is over run by labs and lab x already ! Good for you!

Spay=no worries about messy heats, no worries about un-wanted pregnancies, no worries about emergency c-sections, no worries about your b-itch and her entire litter dying in the birth, no worries about mom refusing to feed puppies, no worries of being up every 2-3 hours for weeks to dropper feed puppies so they'll stay alive, no worries about puppies going to bad homes...

I hope you're asking this so you can keep her inside and safely away from the boys until you make that spay appointment...

I hope you're not planning on breeding if you don't even know this basic information.
