Dear oh dear. People you have not understood.
The Opium fields in Afganistan are growing. The people smuggling is a thriving trade etc.
Shouldn't our soldiers [after a long earned rest] protected their homeland instead of lost causes in far flung lands

What are they going to do. Cops at the moment get in trouble for stopping illegals from coming across the border. When the illegals shoot at them they are suppose to not fire back. Just make it a chemical wasteland and not worry about who is trying to cross anymore.

Looking at your Avatar this could be a B.N.P. Troll question post.

However on the off chance its not, then you might be surprised to know the military has no connection with controlling borders, when there is no state of war.

Do you have any idea of the cost to British Tax-payer to have soldiers stationed around the shores of the United Kingdom??

Who do you perceive to be a threat to the security of the United Kingdom, care to name them ??If its a case of fearing an influx of Illegal refugees coming to take over the country then, Illegal refuges are the responsibility for the Department of Immigration and the Police.

Under current E.U. regulations the E.U. member States maintain an open border policy for the ease of transit of E.U. citizens.

The British military is not responsible for controlling illegal immigration and never will be.

Drug Smuggling and people Smuggling have nothing to do with the Military, its a Civil Police matter.

Its time for the British to institute a National Identity Card System and a massive boost of money into the Immigration Department with similar powers as the German Border Police / Bundsgrenschutz and the Auslanderamt.

We don't really have borders as such. Anyone, even known criminals can enter the UK legally as long as they are EU citizens with a passport. Putting us on border patrols would be a waste of time and effort. I suppose we could stop some illegals getting in but I'm sure we would cost more than the spurious benefit claims.
Most of the terrorists, both active and potential either enter the UK legally or already live here.
We would end up pointing are weapons inwards rather than towards Europe.

Hell yes they should. We should station regiments all across the U.K.s borders and border crossings at friendly neighbouring states such as Germany and Ireland, etc. We should also have the Navy stationed closer to home. Not only will this help reinforce and protect Britain, but also stop the influx of illegal immigrants (as long as the military are allowed to shoot on site or at least turn them away with the threat of force if refused.)

When our soldiers come home from Iraq, don't you think they've done ENOUGH already????? They should NOT be sent out to guard ANYTHING.... we have other forces that have as yet been assigned out anywhere and THOSE military men and women could guard the boarders IF NEEDED while the soldiers that are coming home from their HORRENDOUS tour of duty in Iraq could REST, and spend time with their families

No I think they should have some well earned r&r and to ajust to normality. Along with some TLC, the horrific things they have had to enjure out there and sights that they have seen must leave them with nightmares, and may need to talk these feelings through to enable these brave men regain some peace in their lives. God bless them all for keeping us safe.
