You could be a Christian without a Bible at all. A true Christian embraces God and Christ in their heart, mind and soul - with a WHOLE heart, mind and soul. A True Christian invites the Holy Spirit into their life and thus lives by the Spirit.
A true Christian will endeavor to Love God our Heavenly Father with all their heart and soul and mind and learn to love all our fellow human beings the way Jesus loves us.
A book is not a requirement, but they can be very helpful in expanding your knowledge (and they can sometimes be confusing or even imperfect). Many people became and will continue to become lovers of God and Christ without a book. The book might be required by a church, but it is resoundingly not required by God.
Even so, if you endeavor to read the Bible from start to finish, sequentially, you'll never regret it - it will enlighten you as the growth of the concepts of God and much of the history of religious beliefs in our world.
I say, if you're thinking about it, go for it.
But being Christian is a state of the heart, mind and soul. Also, there are different forms of organized evolutionary religions that are Christian. It's a huge bunch of denominations, etc.

Of course you are allowed to be a Christian if yo haven't read the bible all the way through. I have been a christian for many years and have not made it all the way through. The best way to read the bible is to get a "one year bible" where you read one chapter of the old testament - one chapter of the new testament - a psalm and a proverb every day for a year. It is easy when it's mapped out for you that way.

I think you can most certainly be a Christian without having read the Bible in its entirety. The problem is you would be following blindly without having a true understanding of your religion and a true understanding of what those beliefs entail. This seems to be the case more often than not, and its sad, really.

... i don't see why not. More that half of the early church (in Jesus' time) were uneducated and could not read. Of those that could...... the Bible (in terms of the NT) wasn't completely a part of the Bible as a whole. They had the OT (Torah) and that was it. Most of the NT are epistles from the Apostle Paul to churches in the what was the modern world then, in addition to what was written by the Disciples, Matthew, John etc and others. The Bible as we know it was a compliation. with the NT being added to the Torah after the death and resurrection of Christ, centuries later.
So, in regard to the stated fact, and considering the early church..... well, they believed in Jesus........ and hadn't necessarily read the 'whole' Bible, so why couldn't any one else?

Certainly, though eventually reading all parts of the Bible is a good goal for a growing Christian.
Thankfully, we do not have to read the whole Bible to be saved. Simply "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ." After that, learning more and more about the message God has sent us is encouraged.

let me try and explain what Christianity is- it is not a set of rules that need to be followed. Granted when you become a Christian, you will want to not just read the Bible, but live it out in your life, in praise to the ONE that Bible points too, Jesus Christ. What if you became a believer close to the end of your life, on earth, no way could you read the entire bible. By the way knowing the Bible, just to know it, does not make you a Christian. The Pharisees, "knew scripture" but never knew the Jesus the bible point too, The Bible does not save, Jesus does.

Of COURSE! Most people never read the whole Bible. It is something that brings people closer to Christ because they are spending more time with him. But you can be a Christian without reading the whole Bible. It is good if you start Daily devotions though....that will help you with your walk with God!
God Bless!

Of course. Being a Christian has to do with accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It doesn't require you reading the Bible or doing some particular acts. You see, being a Christian has to do with FAITH not reason, not belief in the sense that "I believe that all this stuff makes sense and I've found evidence to back it up." That's what atheists want ... proof like proving that so much sodium mixed with so much chlorine produces so much salt. It doesn't take any faith to believe stuff like that. God is seeking people who have faith in him, not people who can prove he exists or can memorize the Bible. He wants us to read the Bible to know him better and to know what he wants for us and how he has moved through history to be with us and provide a way to be with him.

Of Course, you are christian when you accept Jesus Christ as your savior. The Bible is the word of God, the only way that you can understand it is through prayer and the Holy Spirit. Search, Ponder and Pray. If you have questions, concerns or need comfort. Pray first. Ask God for his divine guidance. Open up the scriptures, the index and search on the topic you need help with, for example, faith, sin, comfort, and look up the scriptures. Highlight the ones that help you so that when you need that help again, you know where to look. Try it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Not only are you allowed, you are welcome. Understand though, that consciously deciding to become a Christian, is consciously deciding to enter into a relationship. A relationship with Jesus Christ. He knows you - more intimately than you know yourself, and He loves you. Now the idea is for you to come to know Him. And I can say with absolute certainty that the more you come to know Him, the more you will come to love Him as well. So now the question is how do you come to know Him? That is where the Bible comes in. The Bible is Holy Scripture - it is the inspired Word of God. Yes, it was written by many men and women in ancient times, but God - being God - can bless certain chosen people with various gifts, one of these gifts is inspiration, so that what the authors are writing, even though it may be in their own particular style and manner, the essence of what they are writing is the very Mind of God. God has a reason for this. Because we are made in the image and likeness of God, it is human nature to want to come to know Him. Through observing nature and the universe around us we can come to know God in a limited way, but because God loves us, He wanted to reveal Himself to us more fully, so that we might have a more intimate relationship with Him. And so, He reveals Himself through the Bible. One of the early Church fathers, St. Jerome(340-420), once said "Ignorance of the scriptures is ignorance of Christ." So if you want to be a Christian, you will want to, at some point, begin to read and study the Bible. And when you do, do so prayerfully, do so reverently. Understand that you are approaching the Word of God, the Bible is actually a collection of books, poems, songs, and letters, but it is a collection unlike any other in the history of mankind. As you get into it and start seeing the big picture, when you read it deeply and really soak in it, you'll find that it will strike chords in you unlike anything else you've ever experienced(and that's coming from a man whose experienced a lot of what this world has to offer - from sex, drugs, rock & roll, to Buddhism, to New Age Mystics, to chasing the "all mighty dollar". I've come full circle and have finally found my peace - my true peace- in Christ).
Always remember God loves us and He takes us right where we are, but He doesn't want us to stay there - He wants to sanctify us, He wants us to become holy.
I don't have room here to say everything I'd like to, but I would like to suggest a few things:
1) Get a good translation, my preference is the Revised Standard Version - Catholic Edition
2) Get a Bible study Guide - there are many out there. The one I'm using is 'The Great Adventure' (it takes you chronologically through the Bible). You can find it at www. ewtn.com
3) Start in the New Testament - Read the Gospels, learn about Christ's life and His teachings. Then move on to the epistles(letters) of Paul. Afterwards you can always go back and study the Old Testament and see how the history of the Nation of Israel was brought to fulfilment in Christ.
4) Find yourself a good Bible believing Church - You will get many suggestions in regard to this step, two things I would say; first - pray about it...turn to God for guidance, and second - don't discount the Catholic Church (I know a lot of people will roll their eyes at this suggestion, but if you look into it, you might be surprised).
I hope this helps and know that you will be in my prayers. God Bless and take care.
