A nurse friend of mine told me that if you eat dairy that your stomach will make even more acid to compensate for the dairy. Its called rebound heartburn. Check with your doctor if you get this a lot. You could have acid reflux disease. If you don't treat this you are more susceptible for esophageal cancer. I'm on prilosec for the rest of my life.

I just try to identify the foods that give me heartburn and stay away from them. I don't know anything about home remedys though.

You could always try Tums or another over the counter antacid. If that heartburn persists or if it came on suddenly not related to anything you ate, you might want to have a doctor check that it is not a symptom of something more serious.

A teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water is an old remedy. But sometimes a little glass of milk, helps me.

1 Tsp of baking soda, 1/2 glass of H2O. Not that great tasting but will do the job.

Dairy, like milk, yogurt, ice cream. Helps me usually, but I take some kind of gas-x pill if I feel it coming on.
