It is better to try when we are living itself. Nobody knows that, what is there- after the death. This subject is described in the book:
" Jeevan-Mukta-Viveka" written by great Rishi "Vidyaranya".

What you know to be death is just a stage in the eternal cycle of birth-life-death-rebirth. You can only unite with the Lord after you are liberated from this eternal cycle. As a human being you have the best chance to strive to liberate yourself. If you lose this chance you will continue to go around in endless circles of this eternal cycle. First you have to realize that your human birth is very precious and its sole aim should be to free yourself from the miserable exile that you are in through abandonment of all earthly bonds and pleasures, only then can you progress in the direction of becoming one with the Lord.

You can have union before death if you choose to follow His path of devotion (Bhakti). After death only if one follows the path of Bhakti also. Bhakti is the topmost yoga system. Don't think that merging with His light energy is union. That is not Union. That is spiritual suicide says Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. There is no loving service in that realm. Only in service with love is their union. Lets give up this idea of impersonal Brahman realization, it is only partial and does not end in union with God. Bhakti does. Hari Bol!

True believers will be with the Lord after death. If this is what you mean by union, then yes.

Union with God has to be done while being in this human body. If it is after death who knows, what will happen?

It is not only possible but also probable for a correct practitioner to meet 'Him' before this precious human body is snatched away from him.

So the task to achieve is to meet God (I call Him Krishn), in this human body.

Hi,
If you are asking if we go to God after the death of our flesh, then the answer is yes. To be absent of the body (flesh) is to be present with the Lord.

In my religion, I believe that after we die, we go to a place of rest, before the resurrection and judgement. A place for our souls to rest and then we are brought forth and we are judged according to our works and the type of life we led. You need to think about your life, have you contributed, have you made this world a better place? or have you gone about destroying the lives of others. If you have its not too late to repent and change your life. God gives us many chances. If we have led lives that inspired others and we have lost ourselves in his work then you will have a chance to live among God in the hereafter. No unclean thing can dwell in the presence of God.

Yup. The Bible calls the church the "bride of Christ".

It's interesting.. The Jewish tradition used to be that a man would choose a wife and if she accepted they would get engaged. During the engagement period the woman would live at home with her family while the man went and build a house for the two of them, usually attached to the wall of his father's house, so the homes of each generation would be strung together...connected...like townhouses. When the house was finished, then the man would return and collect his fiancee and they would officially get married. But the woman wouldn't know exactly when he would be coming to get her. It's the same with Christ and the church - he says "I have gone to prepare a place for you", in his father's house, in heaven. We don't know exactly when he'll come back to get us, but when he does we will be "married" - in a spiritual sense - to him forever. :)

I don't believe that God ever cuts ties with us, and so we are already united, we may just be unable to feel it. Therefore, I would imagine that after this container no longer functions, and if one wants a face-to-face with God, it certainly would be granted.

Peace
