I'm a Christian and my boyfriend is a Muslim. We've been together for three years and his asking were we are going with the situation. He gave me time to ponder, but i don't think that i need any time to think, he knows that i love him to bits and he loves me too, but i don't want to change my faith and neither does he want too. I never once gave him a option as to change his faith for me. I really think that his family is busy putting pressure on him and then as for my family again, they say what ever decisions i make they are with me all the way, i'm a grown up and so is he. What do i tell him? His waiting on a answer.
How do i go about the whole of the situation? Please help me! What answer do i have to give him? At the end of the day the two of us will be a family on our own...

I would be very careful with this. Religion is a thing that sort of gets hardwired in your brain and establishes the framework by which you perceive things.

There are fundamental differences between Christiany/Judaism and Islam that are not reconciliable and that in the long run would cause you more harm than good. The fact that he is forcing you to make a decision based on renegging what you and your entire family have grown up believeing in order to adhere to his is unnacceptable.

It seems that if you are askign this question, you probably know the answer already and your hesitation leads me to believe that you feel like you've invested time in this relationship and don't want to feel like you've wasted that time but you don't seem like you actually want to go through with it.

Naturally, all I know about you is that single paragraph you've written which is tantamount to nothing but coming fro a christian middle-eastern background, I can tell you that such relationships rarely work.

It would depend a lot on how religious you both are? Most of the time, "family pressure" is just relatives worried about what other relatives and relations will think! You should tell the respective families that you are together and religion isn't a problem for you and therefore no-one else should have a problem with it either. [This will only work if both of you make this statement as you need to present a united front].

The parents are probably worried about any future children and If they will be baptised or circumstised etc, . However, if neither of you are ultra-religious - then you could come to some agreement regarding any children in the future, perhaps let them choose their religion when they are old enough to do so????

If you don't want to change your faith, then do not do it.

You probably need to consider issues and problems down the road... if his family is putting pressure on him, you could gently remind him he has a brain of his own, and he could consider using it!

I dont' think it matters about religion, and people marry and retain their same beliefs for the duration. But if it's a big issue, maybe rethink things... and do what is best for you.

Oh sweetie I understand,me and my bf for 4 years are two verry different religions (FYI we are engaged now). The fact of the matter is no one is living your twos lifes but you two. if you make eachother happy and you love eachother than stay with eachother. everything can be worked out with meeting half way. His family will come around sooner or later. I wish you the best of luck and happiness.

Tell him you are remaining in your faith and he can do the same with his but never ever pressure you into changing religions.

Tell him you are a Christian, and you will be forever. If he accept that, then you will have a good relationship. If he does not accept that, then your relationship is going nowhere.
