I have heard it is quite safe, but are there any risks to this lazer operation.

These days most eye surgery is safe but as with any medical procedure there is risk of infection or damage to other parts of the area that is operated on,
The biggest risk is loss of sight permanently but this happens a lot less with modern practises.
That is why it is important to think it through before you have any thing done ,but some times surgery is the only way to cure some things

You are having gashes burnt in your eye to change its shape. That means you are risking blindness for cosmetic reasons of being too vain to wear glasses. Think that one through in terms of its implications.
