I loved them, and they do help a small room. As far as them jumping off, don't allow it your the mom! My kids never did, they were told not to. the only problem I had was them arguing over who would get the top. If they are young make sure you utilize the rails!

It depends on the kids. If you think they might do something like jump off the top bunk it might not be such a good idea. My 2 boys use them and they are fine. A lot of bunk beds can be separated so you can always do that if it doesn't work out. I had them when I was akid and the only bad experience I had with them was when my sister on the top bunk used to get sick and throw up over the side of the bed. It ended up on the bottom bunk where I was. Not fun!
I should add that children under 7 are not rccommended to sleep on the top bunk according to the warnings that came with mine.

Once when I was asleep I had to get down and I slipped and was hanging by my leg and I bruised it so bad I could not sit or walk right for a week.I hav also stood up and bumped my head no problem just something that throw a person off balance!!Balance is important when being up there you really could fall.I do not recemend getting bunk beds.I have been there and I know one could say I am still alive so it must be fine ,but I now have nerve damage in my elbo from a slip I had on the bunk bed.Plus it is not east to sleep because if someone below moves it the person on top can fell it.

To build a set of bunks with the help of children will be so rewarding that the final outcome of the beds will look great, but a little help on the way and you will impress the boys for life. Pine is not a bad choice for bunk beds it is a soft wood readily available. The trick to staining pine is to dampen the wood first to open the grain pine which is dry will look blotchy this is also done if you are painting pine for the first time. Sanding by hand is time consuming a orbital sander will cost around $20.00 you really do not need a router to round the edges you can use the sander. Enjoy the project.

Bunk beds are a great idea. However, you will have to make sure your children agree who sleeps on the top and bottom... it can lead to arguments. Luckily, when I was younger, my sister agreed to sleep on the top, because I woke up several times at night to use the bathroom. They definitely give more room to play. Don't give your children any ideas... don't make jumping off the top bunk a concern... unless they do it. If they are too immature to not jump from the bed, they may be too immature for bunk beds... remember, you can always take them apart and make two separate beds if all else fails.

Put the oldest on top,
The younger will be quite happy on bottom,
Bunkbeds are a lot of fun.
Get wood bunk beds,
The metal ones cause problems. For the bedding,
buy cheap one piece bunkies to start with and later get 2 piece bunkies with base boads, when they get bigger.
The wood bunkbeds built with 2 x 4s will last longest and cost the less. When the kids are teens they can yet again toss the bunkies and go with 3/3 single bedding all without having to buy new beds. The bunk beds can go to college too if need be and because they are wood ,they will be there for your grandkids. .

we have bunk beds for my 2 nephews who are 2 and 6. The 6 year old sleeps on the top. The only problem we are having with the bunk beds is the 2 year old wont stay off of the top bunk and he likes to jump off. but if you have older kids it wont be a problem.

well its kinda hard to jump off a bunk bed if the celings are the standard 8 feet and a bunk bed is nearly 6 ft tall falling off would be more of my worry, and now they have bunk beds that have drawers underneath for added storage, and once the girls learn they will have much more room they will relax with the idea
we are getting bunk beds for our boy and brother in law in 2 weeks and gonna use air mattresses on them .. so no way will any one be jumping on those...:)
good luck and hope your girls love em

Kids are made from rubber! My brother and I had bunk beds. I recommend this:
The older girl gets the TOP bunk. That is because she is older and has more strength, balance, etc.
Always make sure the protective guard (to keep them from falling out of bed) is up. The best way is to put the bed so that one side is up against a wall.
*** Make sure there is a night-light, so it is easier to get out of bed from the top bunk safely! ***
Best of luck!

LOL! If I were you I would not get bunkbeds, maybe a trundle bed. My experience sucked. For the first week or so all I had to deal with was the jumping and bickering over the top bunk, and my little boy (who was 4 then) could not easily get up and down. Then one morning the boys were playing in their room, and I was tidying up and keeping tabs on my baby and my friend's little boy, well all of a sudden I hear something like a shower running and both my boys come tearing out of the room, screaming and crying. Come to find out they had been trying to hang a "welcome home daddy sign" from their bunkbed to the sprinkler system, and set off the sprinklers. Worst part is we lived in a third story apt and the entire apartment had to have like 300 gallons of water pumped out by the fire dept. and my downstairs neighbor also had damage. Thank goodness for rental ins.

Unless you have a very high ceiling there's no way for them to stand on the top one to jump down.
Definitely get ones with guard rails all the way round.
The only problem we ever had was that the one time my daughter was suddenly taken ill and threw up in the night she couldn't get out of bed and to the bathroom fast enough :( You might consider if there will still be some way you could have both sleep on the ground level if they're poorly - maybe just taking the mattress down and putting it on the floor for a couple of days. We have a foldout bed which my daughter uses instead if she's sick.
