it is reviewed every five years so long as you are required to have it. Once you get out of the job that it was required for, varies. Some clearances expire immediately because they are billet specific. others will last for one year after leaving.

Your risk-free practices clearance is valid for the two 5 or 15 years from the date granted, counting on the form of clearance. once you're discharged, you will lose your get right of entry to to categorised fabric, as you no longer have a could acknowledge, even although you have a clearance. in case you have been to re-enter a place mandatory a clearance, you would be granted get right of entry to back based on a similar clearance you had, provided it had no longer expired and it had no longer been revoked using different reasons. DoS, DoD and the FBI use distinct centers to grant clearances, so they won't be conscious of each others clearances even although by employing regulation they could.

Your security clearance lasts 5 years for Top Secret if you are actively using it and 10 years for secret. Also, there are rules if you aren't currently using it which I don't remember the time frame for. When the time is up they do a reinvestigation if you still require it for you to keep your clearance. Also, as the previous poster mentioned there is something similar to a NDA(Non Disclosure Agreement).

No, it varies depening on your grade, position or rank and ends when they want it to end. Compliance with the official secrets act for for life. But the "I was only obeying orders" rule has been challenged in the courts. You can whistle blow legally - if it is in the public interest.

They probably leave it on there for life and then tell you they've cleared it.
