It's one of the benefits of making up your own religion -- you get to add new laws whenever you like to con people out of their money, get other available women into your bed, etc.

They say that it is because of respect and so forth. I go along with it but may question the qualifications of an elder in the Bible and see if they meet the Biblical qualifications.
They go through the temple in order to earn a greater salvation than is available from them to us. The swearing not to reveal things is because of the Masonic influence on the temple ceremonies.
Joseph Smith's law is very different from the Bible's laws.

Wow, that's about 30 different questions.
You can know a missionary's first name. However, missionaries are called "Elder" because it's a title of their call to the ministry. Sort of similar to a "Father" or "Sister", "Bishop", "Cardinal", etc etc.
We go through the temple to learn more about our relationship with Heavenly Father.
We don't talk about things that we hold sacred with those who do not treat them sacredly. I have read the Old Testament, and only specifically designated priests could even enter the inner rooms of the temple, let alone talk about them to gentiles. You may want to re-read that...
Mormon law regarding polygamy is that it is not currently approved and those who engage in it will be excommunicated. Again...you may want to re-read that... You may also want to re-read your Bible, in which most of the prophets lived a polygamous lifestyle. Therefore, polygamy isn't something Joseph Smith came up with. It's been part of God's laws since ancient times.
EDIT: Ah, grasping at straws now, are we? Yes, at different times, the Lord has given different commandments for His people to follow. (You may be familar with the Old vs New Testament? Maybe not....) No, I never claimed that ordinary members of the church can enter the "holy of holies" nor that we have the "ark of the covenant". Though if we did, I certainly wouldn't be braying about it here on Y!A...

Did you know that we believe that we have living prophets whom God speaks thru to His church? If God tells us something, thru His living prophets, then that's what we are to do. or don't do, in keeping with the situation.
Sacred things are NOT to be shared with those who would not understand. For instance, sexual relations between a husband and wife are sacred and should never be shared with others. It's just not done! Like the Bible says, don't throw your pearls to the pigs, or holy things to the dogs, because they might must trample them in the mud and then turn and attack you.

You have been fed some very confusing, misleading information about the LDS (Mormon) church and beliefs.
First, we don't "have to" go through the temple. We may choose to when we are prepared and if we are found worthy.
Second, in the Holy temple's their are only a very few things we are to keep secret, even they are to be reveled by us at a certain time and place. Every thing else is sacred that is done and found in the temple. In the proper setting and when prompted by the spirit much of what happens their can be discussed out side of the temple. But I will not attempt to cast the pearls of this truth and sacred items out here on a yahoo answer board. I will say the teachings in the temple are to prepare us for the after life, as well as to more fully teach us our duty and responsibility for this life. It teaches us who we really are, as children of God. And a little bit about the creation of this world, our proper relationship with God and our Lord Jesus Christ. It also teaches us some about Satan, and how he is working to destroy us.
We also do ordinance work for those who have died with out being able to do it for them selfs, so that all may receive salvation, not only those who were able to be baptized and things like that while alive.
Third, you don't need to worry about what clothing we choose to wear, suffice it to say you should never see a "Mormon" after going through the temple wearing a overly reveling clothing style as non sports or costume wear.
Fourth, I have one wife, I do not know any member of the LDS church that has more then one, If I did know of one he would be excommunicated quite fast, it is not allowed.
In summary, don't you have anything better to do with your time then worry about something you know so little about? If your happy with your religious beliefs, go on with them and allow us to worship in peace also, if your searching for more truth invite the LDS missionaries over and see if it can be found for you in the teachings of the "Mormons" go the LDS.org to invite them to your home.
As for the Missionaries first name, if you ever get to know one they will most likely tell you their first name, it is not secret. But with your attitude they most likely did not trust you enough to share that with you.

I do not understand the concept of calling a young,SINGLE man Elder--Read I Timothy 3:1-5 speaks of an elder in the church being the husband of one wife, manage his family, having children who respect & obey him.????
The concept of having more than one wife is not in the Bible--yes David,Solomon had more than one wife but that doesn't mean God approved.Read Malachi 2:13:16 & Matthew 19:4-9. Granted this is talking about divorce being allowed it refers to the fact that it was allowed due to the harding of their hearts. The concept of several wives is a man-made morman thing

They see the Temple as a sacred thing, it is a trust they hold to God. I doubt they are scheming evil plans behind smiling faces. I have known six missionaries each of which I knew the first name of by inquiring. Just ask them, they will tell you.

When you're married are you going to share every detail of what goes on between you and your wife (outside and inside the bedroom)???
Is it because it's top secret? Or because it's private and none of anyone else's business?
What goes on in the temple is Private and none of your business.

If I was asked what my name was, I told them.
To grow closer to God
Its symbolic
I've never worn a vest under my garments
It's sacred
We do try to share it, that's why we have 50K+ missionaries
Polygamy is an eternal principle that is practiced when needed.
It is not needed now.
We believe in honoring, obeying and sustaining the law of the land.
I think I answered all the questions.
