I have a 16 month old. Is it necessary to brush her teeth? I am pretty sure she doesn't know how to spit. What is the correct way to do it? She has two teeth on top, and two on bottom.

There are special toothpastes that do not contain fluoride...it's OK that she doesn't spit yet. You can get the finger toothbrush to start with, but she may bite you!

We've been brushing our son's teeth since the first one appeared at 6 months and now at 14 months we are brushing his 10 teeth twice a day. He loves it! We sing our ABC's, brushing teeth song and count to see how many teeth he has. I recently bought him a toddler battery operated toothbrush so he can be just like mommy and daddy. Even more fun! As for the spitting they have toddler/infant toothpaste without any flouride so it's safe for them.

wholesome toddlers do are available in a brilliant array of shapes and sizes -- and a small 14 month old might possibly be the size of a huge 6 month old -- there's a brilliant form of overlap interior the burden charts. (My neice, at 4 months replaced into better than my daughter at 2 years.) FWIW, the 5th percentile for a 14 month old boy is approximately 19 kilos. it is the fiftieth percentile for a 7 month old and the ninety fifth percentile for a 4 month old. so which you are going to see that many wholesome toddlers are the comparable length as wholesome yet lots youthful toddlers. As for progression -- it is no longer uncommon to have not any tooth at this age. on a similar time as maximum toddlers are pulling up/status, many at the instant are not yet strolling or speaking yet. retaining the bottle -- why could he? Many toddlers delight in being snuggled with mama and letting her carry the bottle. (A breastfed toddler does not 'carry his very own breast.') If toddler is getting general nicely-toddler care on the healthcare expert, then his length and progression are being monitored, and that i'm optimistic your brother and SIL could be conscious if there replaced right into a situation.

I 'love' all the 'you shoulda done this' answers. Girl, don't worry about it. Yes, start brushing them but more importantly, avoid sugary stuff, teach her to use a straw, dilute fruit juices. My daughter is three and even when I tried to teach her to brush, she either hated it or she would just gnaw on the brush on one side. So when she was about two I had her chewing sugarless gum. Yep! (All of you that have your 'she'll choke on it' belts on, calm yourselves, she doesn't swallow it). I still give her half a piece a day after breakfast when she's still in a morning funk and won't look at a toothbrush.

They have special toothpaste for babies/toddlers that they don't have to spit out. We still use this for our 3 yo (and our 13mo). And yes, you should start brushing once they have teeth - in the very least you should wipe the gums down with water and washcloth.

You are supposed to start washing their gums as newborns, and then when they get the first tooth, brushing that. A child does not need to spit, you use an infant toothpaste, and that's not really even necessary.

It is very necessary....I child can get tooth decay at that age...you should be brushing her teeth daily....

All you need to do is get some toothpaste (start out w/out flouride) and put some on a tooth brush and brush them and then to let her try, it gets her involved and she will like it more...

They have toothpaste for babies that does not have any fluoride in it, so it is safe to swallow. You just get a tiny toothbrush and just brush the teeth that she has. You should also brush her gums because they get bacteris on their gums too.

Yes, you should be brushing them. Buy the toothepaste designed for young ones (no flouride) so you don't have to worry about spitting. You can also clean them with a wet cloth.
