i hear i can carry a weapon legally but there is a stipulation. is it that you can carry an unloaded weapon? can i at least have the clip on my person? i would look like a fool with a gun in my purse and the clip in my truck. they are guaranteed not to always be in the same place. i travel alone most times unless my 9 year old is with me and i am concerned with both our safety alot. i never want to shoot anyone but if it comes down to who shoots who first then i would like to have a fighting chance. the world is today what it is and whether we like it or not we gotta play the same game to survive.

I think i know what you are referring to. The idea is that at home you should store your gun seperately from the ammo to prevent junior from playing with a loaded weapon if he just happens to find your hiding place for it. In a carrying situation you need should have a loaded weapon, a permit to keep your gun concealed, and frequent range time to make sure you can safely use it.
Good luck

There are a few things to consider here. I believe the advice you received about an unloaded gun may be based on US Federal law that allows a firearm to be transported about the county so long as it is separated from the ammunition. As I understand it, the intent of this law is to allow hunters, sportsmen, etc to travel across state lines without fear of arrest and having their guns taken by state and local police. Also, the "clip" or magazine is considered part of the firearm...so just removing the magazine from the magazine well may not suffice to keep you out of trouble. That's the federal stuff...as I understand it.
As for your local state, you might want to repost this question with a little more specific information of where you live and where you travel...hopefully someone will have specific informaiton for you.
I can tell you that in Georgia there is NO difference in carrying loaded or unloaded gun. All that matters is how and where you are carrying and whether or not you have a pistol permit (issued by the probate court in your county of residence). If you want more details on how and where you can carry in Georgia, I'll be happy to answer but it's lengthy. Please post a new question if you want that information.
Parting thought. It is better to be judged by twelve than carried by six...do what you feel you must and use some common sense. Odds are the police will neve know about your concealed gun if you don't go waiving it about and drawing attention to yourself. Cops do not worry about the armed citizen; it's the armed criminal that causes the headaches and heartaches.

This is not true. In all states with the exception of Vermont, there are restrictions which require licensure for the concealled carrying of firearms. It doesn't matter if it is loaded or not, if it is capable of recieveing cartridged rounds, it is considered a firearm.
The best thing to do is to #1 do a search on the internet for your state's laws. Then contact the agency which is responsible for issuing concealled weapons permits. Start with your Secretary of State's office and they will direct you further. You will more than likely need to take a safety class which costs around $40 and then complete an application with the respective agency. The application fee will range anywhere from $40 - $120.
I have 2 permits, one for West Virginia and one from Florida. The reason for this is that I am a resident of West Virginia, however the Florida permit is valid in more states than the West Virginia Permit is. This way, now I have a total of about 35 states which I can carry in. The WV permit took 2 weeks to obtain, but the Floriday permit took about 2 months. The application for Florida was much more intensive also.

You can get a concealed carry permit, but I would recommend you get some training first, defending yourself with a gun isn't as easy as taking a photo (point and shoot), You need to know what to do when it malfunctions, or needs to be reloaded in the middle of a gunfight, how and where to carry on your person and when you can or cannot shoot. Not to mention learning how to shoot properly (harder than you think) and getting some target practice in.

Without stating where you reside makes it difficult to research the laws of your state.
However, I believe that all the states either require a CCW (Carry Concealed Weapon) Permit or not permitted to carry at all. Weapons permits are generally for carrying in a public place yet still have restrictions such as bars, schools, churches, etc.
One may possess a weapon on their private property without a CCW in my own state.
The below weblink should assist you in determining the laws of your state.
Best wishes.

This is ridiculous. If you carry legally, you can have the gun loaded. An unloaded weapon is USELESS. Where did you hear this nonsense?

go to your local court house and inquire about a concealed weapons permit it should only require you to pay a fee and attend a short class. Once you have the permit you can carry the weapon loaded in your purse legally.

Find your state in the link...this will get you started.
I have heard of unloaded carry, but only in conjunction with
travel in a car.
An unloaded gun is a paperweight.
Good luck.

The taser could work... or mace.
Seriously, I think if you pulled a gun on someone, even if it's not loaded, they'd probably be scared. If they aren't, it'd be time to tase them. :)
