My husband is in the Army and he wants to reclass to get out of his current MOS. He can't reenlist until Aug. 2008 but does this apply to reclassing as well? He's trying to reclass from a 63H (track vehicle mech.) to 11B (infantry). Any ideas?

Tell him to make his request through channels starting with his chain of command. If he is approved he will be required to reclassify by attending the Infantry AIT program of instruction at Fort Benning, GA or be enrolled in a Supervised On The Job Training (SOTJ) program with a local Infantry Battalion, however I would opt for the resident program at the Infantry School if it is offered to him.

If he's refused by his chain of command the first time around tell him to try and try again, at some point they will give in to his request once they see that he's serious about it. After the third request if they are still refusing his request he can make an Inspector General enquiry into the issue. However I do not that will be required...

He could be reclassing on TDY orders so the BAH shouldn't substitute. If he's PCSing then specific it is going to alter to the Arizona quantity. Separation pay on condition that long previous for over 30 days. specific he can stay in barracks or the lodging. His orders could state goverment quarters are directed or something alongside that line.

Usually, its just re-enlisting. Id go talk to retention - but, they will only offer him the reclass/re-enlistment option if his MOS isnt "of the needs of the Army" like infantry, field artillery or medic (my husband). I would suggest him take the "School" option and reclass if its offered to re-enlist!

how long has he been in his current MOS? typically they must be in the job at least 2 years before they can request to reclassify.

YOU don't ask Yahoo! HE goes through the chain of command. That's why it's there. That's why they teach it. He should know how to do it.
