what kind of van? It could be that the cables to your starter are lose. If you hear a click and sort of a spinning sound is your starter, but from what you are describing is a loose wire either on your starter or your battery.

Was it turning over before? Just not starting, if so then it is correct that the battery cables are not tight enough. If its a ford, it could be the solenoid usually bolted to the firewall, fried itself. Lastly, the starter, because it would click, but not turn it over at all. If thats what it was doing before, and is doing now, thats what you've got, a bad starter. Those are the three biggest problems, start small, with adjusting the cable, make sure its tight and the connection is clean, move on to the solenoid if its a ferd...or starter if its any other vehicle. Remember the parts store will test em for ya. Oh, and a lil tip, bang the starter (not too hard as to break it!) and it sometimes kickstarts the starter, helps for a few times before you'll have to replace it. Good luck with your troubleshooting.

Not much to go on, but I will say this. Chrysler has a lot of trouble with starter solenoids. The contacts in the solenoids burn down aftert about 70,000 miles or up. This is characterized by a clicking at the starter, but no cranking. Most of the time, if you keep on trying to start with the key, it will eventually crank. Make sure the new battery is up too. Check it with a volt meter. If it is up, you should 12.5 volts at least. Anything less and the battery is low on charge. (12.6 and up is fully charged).

could be a starter, but I would first check the cables to make sure they were all tight, I have seen that happen many times before that the cable that is bolted to the starter is loose! And may only need tighten!
