It hasn't stopped. Notice how you're not the same person as your parents? Genetic differences between generations is evolution.

Where do you get the idea that it stopped. I'll provide you some links to recent research that suggests humans are still evolving and also other continuing evolution studies. Are you thinking evolution is like a person suddenly giving birth to a new species? Gradual change over time is evolution. Although sudden mutations that lead to a survival benefit and are passed on can result in eventual species diversion. These changes are normally not all at once but gradual changes.

How long is a day to God? What if he created man in a beaker? It's like the joke. Man was arguing with that he could make life. God said okay, do it. The man lean down and picked up a hand full of dirt. God said No get your own dirt. If man had need of gills he would have them. During his life he has had gills and a tail, if you know where to look.

OK Skeeter....it has NOT stopped.

gills would be needed if we lived in the water....we do not..we live on land...so gills would result in death..hence no reproduction..hence trait not passed on.

People ARE evolving..if you look you will see people are generally taller than they were 100 years ago..that is evolution..the changing of a species.

Maybe 1,000 years from now the average height will be 8 or 9 feet tall

There is no evolutionary pressure on humans anymore because we control our environment. For example, we make clothes to keep us warm, so we don't need fur. There are some examples of adaption short of speciation in humans. People who live in the Andes mountains have a larger lung capacity because the air is thin.

If there were a marine mammal that evolved from a hominid, it still wouldn't have gills. Other marine mammals (whales, dolphins, manatees) breathe air like their ancestors did.

Oh good lord.

First, what makes you think evolution has stopped?
Second, why in the world would you expect a man with gills?

You have no idea whatsoever what evolution is. What you wrote here is like asking "If Christianity is true, why aren't trees purple? And why doesn't the sun rise in the morning?".

cause human body is not fitted for swimming per se. the competition in the ocean goes on for several billions of years, so any newbie not enough aggressive and fitted would be wiped very quickly.
the evolution has not stopped,it is a slow process. you don't see the continental drift nor the dark side of the moon, but still you agreee that they are, why do you deny evolution?
no one says you are a descendant from a monkey. just that we have the common ancestors.thas OK, it makes monkeys more humane, not human more monkeyish

You're what, like 13 years old? Well Earth is a few billion years old. I suggest you examine embryonic development. You will find a stage where man does have gills. You were once a mere tadpole.

who said that it stopped? man doesnt have gills because we dont need gills... but there are several blimbing muscles in our arms that are 'suprisingly' under developed in some people, and normally present in others. this means that because we dont climb as much as we used to anymore. those muscles are slowly dissapearing.

secondly, the traveling capabilities our technoligy level now poses, promotes travel, and intermixing of races. this is also evolution. mixing different races.

evolution takes thousands of years and a man has no need for gills

if you and your ancestors stay in the water for thousands of years they may develop

It doesn't ever stop. Evolution does not occur over 1 generation or even 2. It occurs over thousands and millions of years (much longer than your lifetime, obviously).

And evolution in fact can be witnessed in our lifetimes. Insects that develop resistance to pesticides is just one example of evolution occuring currently

and also, the average height of different races has been shown to have increased over many many years, which is just another example of evolution.
