Take a hot shower and then apply a cold compress. The heat relaxes the muscles and the cold reduces inflamation. I would also suggest seeing a chiropractor and a massage therapist and learning some mild yoga to help with flexability and strength for those muscles around the back. Before you do anything though you want to talk with your doctor.

Yoga study will be a wonderful direction to point your life. There's a saying"You are only as old as your spine" and if you have problems, learning the nature of your spine and its supporting muscles will be of more benefit than any short term cure or fix.

There are plenty of on line yoga sites but learning proper alignment will take a little hands on help. If you know any body that has studied ask them for direction. They should be glad to help you.

Maintaining the flexibility of your spine should be of paramount importance to any living human. Sadly time priorities take precident. (I get up at 5:30 to get mine in!)
But if your back is sick your whole being suffers so what is important? Getting yourself well is important!

Yoga will help. I'm a beat up old athelete and if I didn't have this I'd be one sunk boat!

You need the right exercises. If you lie flat on your back on the floor raise your legs up to a curl then lift your butt up and then slowly let it down. Don't over due but keep increasing the duration of the exercise. Stay with this one it will strengthen the inside muscle (tenderloin) which will make your back stronger and elevate the pain.

I have had back pain for 30 years now and I have learned that it is a matter of learning to live with it (managing it). You get the best results when you exercise. There are special exercises for your back and as you strengthen your muscles, you will have less and less back pain. Believe me, it works!!! ... But you should never stop the exercise. It has to be part of your daily routine

That is a non-specific complaint. Treatment and relief would be related to the specific injury or underlying cause of the pain. Answers you receive without specific knowledge could result in worsening. See a doctor or chiropracter for answers.
