If you're asking about a pet rat, you may want to include a rope toy in its cage as they do enjoy climbing and it's a great workout for their body. My rat liked to climb on a rope bridge that I bought in the bird toy section and some like to hang off strips of fabric tied to the top of the cage. Wooden bird ladders are also good. You have to check to make sure they aren't eating the rope as it can get caught in their gut and cause a painful death.

hi . rats the (wild ones) will get anywhere they can climb into and onto most things also they can sort of dislocate all their bones to get under a closed door i guess thats why they are called vermin. i imagine tame rats do the same as they are just cultivated wild ones .wild rats will also attack if it is one on its own ,they will jump at you but for some reason dont if there are several of the little critters .

they certainly can my rats love climbing it is basicly there hobbie, there cage is off the ground, so as i can leave it open for them to roam on top of it, i have even built them a cubby house on top of the cage with a ladder to get to the roof of the cubby then I put a tubing along the wall and a plat form for them to go on at the end of the tubing they love the fact that they can roam freely when ever they like. and it is so cool to see them scampering about. if you have one you should do the same! it is way cool to see them !

Yes, they climb and scooch and jump and squeeze...

My oldest rat will jump from my shoulder to my hunny's back... across our computer room. She makes quite an impact on us. XD

Because rats have no collarbone, like cats, they can fit through any space their head can.
