I will be away for a 10-day visit, and I couldn't find anybody to look after my one-year-old female cat. Also her veterinary told me that she will be staying in her cage for 10-days if I choose to leave her to him:( I really don't want to put my cat on such a trouble because she is a very independent cat, and also highly emotional! Another choice is to leave her at home with a sufficient amount of food and water and let her walk through all the rooms and balcony. But again, I am worried if she can make it for such a long time!? And if she fells left alone and get depressed? What do you think? What is the best among these choices?

get a friend, neighbor, family member or look into pet sitters so your cat can have someone to come over and feed it and give it fresh water, clean the litterbox and play with it everyday. the longest I would say to ever leave a cat with out anyone coming over would be 48 hrs. and that's pushing it.

ask your vet if they have any recomendations on anyone to come and check on your cat.

We left a cat for 2 weeks in the house before, but we had someone come and check on her every few days. Another time we left a pile of cats and kittens. Someone came in to check on them daily. Surely, you have someone who can come every other day and freshen up the litter and make sure the food and water is still okay? It isn't that big of a time commitment. We actually just ask the neighbors to do it for us, no good friends had to travel or anything like that.

We've also left cats at boarding facilities and the vets before. The vet did keep the cat in a cage, it survived. The cage was larger than what pet stores use, so the cat could move. The boarders had smaller cages, but took each cat out for a bit daily to exercise in a protected area. The nicer cats, they would actually just let hang out in the office a bit and be petted.

You really either need to find someone to check on her, or have her boarded. It is safest and healthiest for her. She will be okay, and when you get home, she will know you haven't deserted her. I've had very touchy cats before too. The last time we went, we had a house sitter. One of the cats refused to come out of the cellar and did all her business on the floor (we don't do litter boxes). She was fine! But, the house sitter was an emotional mess :-) (He also accidentally left the black tom in - marked everything - while leaving the black female out who was supposed to be in. They looked to much alike.) In the end, they all survived except the house sitter, who was never quite right again. heheheheh

There are kennels that take cats. Do some research and find one that doesn't keep cats in a cage the whole time. You cannot leave her for 10 days without someone coming in and there are people who do that too - Pet Sitters. You can make arrangements for them to come in every day if you want or every couple of days. They usually stay for about a 1/2 hour.

A pet sitter, a higher end boarding facility, or take the kitty with you. Please don't leave it alone. While she would likely survive with plentiful amounts of food and water, her litterbox would be dirty, and she would be highly stressed. There would be no one around to monitor her behavior, and therefore if something went wrong, she couldn't get the medical attention she needed. Check the yellow pages for boarding, as well as the internet. I'm not sure where you're located, but there are people who specialize in providing higher end care to animals while people are away. Best of luck.

If you get a feeder bowl/water system the cat should do just fine... It's an upright feeder that dispenses the right amount of food to your pet and gives fresh water as well... If you leave out bowls of food your cat might eat everything before you come back... Also, if you aren't going to be there to change the litter that could be a problem as well.. Your cat might poop and pee where you don't want he/she to... I would suggest calling a pet service to at least check on your pet daily to give her a bit of attention and food/water as well as clean the litter or pay a neighborhood kid a few bucks to do the same... Check under services for CRAIGSLIST in your area or JOYCARES or some other pet service... Just to be on the safe side...

Call around to other vets that do boarding not just treating of animals. Surely there is one that will take your cat in. And will have a place like a dog run they can periodically put the cat in to rome around in. Sounds like your vet doesn't have that.
Or didn't think about that if you have a dog run you can put a cat in it too... They are a very tall and long cage about the size of a large bathroom and most are enclosed on the top.

Do not leave your cat alone for 10 days!
Try finding a pet sitter in your neighborhood that will come and give it fresh water and food.
She may or may not make it that long by herself, do you really want to take that chance? How long before you leave on your visit? I find it hard to accept you don't have anyone you can get to take care of your cat. If you live in Orange county Ca I will take care of it!
You need to try harder to find someone who can take care of your cat. Just because some cats would do ok by themselves doesn't mean yours will.
Try the Internet for a pet sitter in your area, if you can't find one please leave it with your vet.

Leaving a cat with enough food and water for ten days she probably would be fine HOWEVER no one is checking that she isn't becoming ill, what if your AC fails and it is roasting hot? What if she starts to prowl around getting anxious because she has been left alone and knocks over things, glass in particular and cuts herself.

I have left my cat overnight but not longer. He has been shut in a neighbours house for two days though and managed to tear down their curtains, knock over a vase and shred important papers that were left on a table.

Cats are VERY independent. She is not going to die if you leave her alone for 10 days. She may get upset with you but she'll get over it. Leave her plenty of water and food. Leave the bag of food out (she WILL feed herself if she ran out of food) and the toilet seat up (sounds gross but she will drink from it if she runs out of water). If she has a collar, take that off so you don't risk it getting caught while you're away. If you can, have a neighborhood kid stop by every 3 days or so just to check up. Buy an extra litter box so she doesn't go on your floor when hers is dirty. She will be fine.

I think taking her to the vet and/or a kennel will be more traumatizing than being home alone for less than 2 weeks.

We had to do this with my 2 cats we went out and spent some extra cash on them as in we got the food and water bowl that drops the food it was for dogs but there much bigger it was a 5 gallon water container and 3 gallon food then we got them the automatic cat box life saver instead of coming home to a full box it was in a plastic container lol. Then we kept the TV on sound was on low but i think it kept them sane and made me feel safe so people think that there is some one all ways home. they where fine when we got back it took them a few days to get off me lol i guess they missed me. they had all the rooms in the house to play with i put up all the opened food and stuff like that so i wasn't coming home to a mess. i think they peed once on the carpet but it was hard to tell.
They will be fine 10 days isn't that bad
just give her/him something to do keep the air cool and plenty of food and litter.
Good luck
